RE305 not connecting to 5GHz network
Hello all,
I've bought extender RE305 from TP-Link. I am trying to set up the repeater correctly, but for some reason it does not want to connect to 5 GHz network of my main router. It connects to 2,4 GHz without problems. This seems to be same problem as here: https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/166856 (as Ziggo is another name of UnityMedia).
Yesterday, I've noticed that for a few minutes, the LED for 5 GHz was on and that repeater managed to connect for a short amount of time, but then once again it disconnected and now 5GHz connection is once again marked as "out of signal".
My laptop, with Intel WiFi, is connecting normally to that network and connection is working and stable.
My main router is from UPC (UnityMedia), its a ConnectBox standard router.
Some info regarding its firmware:
Standard specification compliant : DOCSIS 3.0
Hardware version : 5.01
Software version : CH7465LG-NCIP-6.12.18.25-2p6-NOSH
Currently, 5GHz Wi-Fi is configured like that:
I tried to change channels, even set them to Automatic or even disable 2,4 GHz at all, but nothing helps.
What is seen by TP-Link:
What can I do to fix that issue?

Please update the firmware to the latest one first and reconfigure the RE305 and verify whether it works.
If it still the same, please show us two screenshots after you logged into the web UI of the RE305.
1. The screenshot of the status page.
2. The Settings-network page.
Besides, please tell us the model number of the main router and its firmware.
Thanks a lot.

@ashishgupta Good day,
If your range extender could not detect router's 5Ghz Wi-Fi, here is a related post that could help:
[Troubleshooting] TP-Link Range Extender is not detecting the 5GHz Signal of the Main Router
Feel free to let us know if this works for you.

Thanks for your requesting, we will get some details to do further analysis.
1. How far away between the main router and the RE305? Try to move it closer and verify whether it can reconnect to the 5GHz.
2. Please give a call to ISP to verify whether the smart wifi can be disabled; now it is enabled and greyed out by default.
3. Please show us a screenshot of the settings-network page.
Looking forward to your reply. Good day.

Hello, @Kevin_Z!
1) tried that even in the same room as the main router. Since unboxing, there is no way to connect. Repeater is detecting the 5 GHz network, but connection is not possible.
When it comes to distance, I would say about 10 metres right now, but a wall is between them.
2) I will ask my provider, however I doubt that, as they market that as their feature: https://www.upc.pl/internet/poznaj/smart-wifi/ (only Polish)
To avoid translating, two main features of that, according to the website are: a) fair splitting the Wi-Fi band b) auto steering the WiFi band "by switching device from 2,4 GHz to 5 GHz if supported".
3) what Settings -> Network page? From what router? You mean only WiFi settings on main router? If so, settings visible on the screen are only settings I can adjust regarding the band.
Important information: I performed a test in which I completely disabled the network security for 5 GHz and then RE305 managed to connect to it. After reenabling WPA2 or even WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK, it stopped working again. Maybe here is the problem, not in the SmartWiFi?
I was wondering if maybe there are some forbidden characters in my WPA2 key? But it only consists of small and capital letters and numbers (currently 24 characters, 134-bits strength).

Same problem for me. I have the last update of the firmware but nothing, signal for 5 Ghz switches from strong to none...
firmware versione: 1.1.0 Build 20191202 Rel. 38644
It's seems to me that the problem is an authentication problem because it disconnects and reconnect.

Sorry but the problem is the same.
I extend my main network using same SSID for 2,4 and 5 Ghz.
Following the two screenshot you requested me:
My main Router is a "Vodafone Station Revolution" with these charateristics:
Hardware is a: Huawei 963168_HUAWEIVOX25
Note that the signal for the 5 Ghz shifts from strong to "No Signal", continuously. I guess it is an authentication problem only for the 5 Ghz, but the credentials are correct.

Thanks for your valued reply.
For the RE305 V3, we have released a beta firmware which you can install and take some time to test the performance.
Our engineer will email you the download link.
Good day.
