RE200 constantly dropping internet
RE200 constantly dropping internet
I got a RE200 a few months ago and it worked mostly well initially. But now it's constantly dropping internet, sometimes for minutes at a time, sometimes even longer. I know it's not the router because I can get (slow) internet through that when the repeater's down. When it's having problems, I often see the two wi-fi bands dropping in and out. Here's what I've done to try and fix this...
- I've tried connecting to it through an ethernet cable.
- I've set the router to a stable channel with minimal interference so the repeater doesn't have to deal with channel switching.
- I've put the repeater on a static IP.
- I've changed the bandwidth from 20MHz to 40MHz on the router.
- I've moved it to two different locations, one closer to me (to test whether it was my connection) and one closer to the router (to test whether it was an issue with being too far from the router)
- I've updated the repeater firmware to the latest version I could find.
At this point I really don't know what else I can do. The router is a NetComm Wireless NF4V if that helps.
Any ideas would be gratefully accepted.

Hello, what is the led status of the RE200 when it lost connection? At that time, with your computer connected to it, please verify the IP address and gateway it obtained. Here is the instruction: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/838/
If possible, please login to the web UI of the RE200 and show us a screenshot of the settings-status page.
Besides, may I know when and where did you buy this RE200? What is the serial number as well?
Good day.

Hello, what is the led status of the RE200 when it lost connection?
The LEDs stay green while disconnected.
At that time, with your computer connected to it, please verify the IP address and gateway it obtained.
The DNS server is 192.168.1.1, my IP address is 192.168.1.3.
If possible, please login to the web UI of the RE200 and show us a screenshot of the settings-status page.
See below, I blanked out the MAC address.
Besides, may I know when and where did you buy this RE200? What is the serial number as well?
I bought it May 2019 from a New Zealand store. The serial number is 217B833000381.
I only recently turned off the 2.4GHz band because I thought that might be interfering with the router.

@Kevin___ same problem with me, in Brazil. Bought 2 months ago.
I also have the wa850re which have always worked perfectly. I was using it for my printer in my office, and bought the re200 for my bedroom. The re200 is in a hallway, with good signal from the main router. Since it was not working, I installed the wa850 in the same place the re200 was, and the connection works fine. So, the problem is clearly the re200.

@Sergioms I have found a solution for me. I have just restored it to the factory firmware, and it is working. For me it was a problem in the firmware. The latest one is faulty. After I restored to the old one I have no issues anymore.
The silence of tplink on the issue is frustrating...

@RodrigoLisita Thanks! did you try with an intermediate version? RE220(US)_V1_190616 has the bug as well?

@RodrigoLisita you must have a Hardware rev 2.0 while I have a 1.0. I don't have such firmware version available. but mine works fine after a factory reset only for 2-3 days, then the issue reoccurs.
i will try the firmware version n-1 and will update you soon.
