Model: Archer C6
Hardware Version: V2
Firmware Version: 1.3.0

Since updating, the channel option under 2.4ghz wifi doesn't seem to work correctly, no matter what you set it to, if you reboot, it defaults back to channel 5, but the gui shows the saved channel, you have to change (in my case) from channel 1, to any other channel then back again to get the router to correctly use channel 1.

This issue was no present in the previous firmware from Janurary.

@robi217

I have contacted TP-Link, they send me a beta firmware, it works for me.

https://static.tp-link.com/2020/202005/20200507/Archer C6(EU)_V2_200507_beta.zip

They say this beta has rolled back the wireless modification.

Just spent an hour talking to a technician to not really get anywhere. I have found that if I change channel width to 20mhz, the router then starts defaulting to channel 11?

@spies Same problem here. I need channel 13, as it is the less used in my zone. And some 5ghz devices at home only allows 20 and 40 mhz. Archer C6 uses 80 although you select 40!!! I have tried lots of combinations, and some of them run, but are lost after reboot. Incredible.

@spies

I have actually ordered a Mikrotik, My C6 Wifi is totally stuffed after Upgrade to 1.3.0; drops devices randomly, slows to almost a standstill(13MB/s download to 15Kb/s). I found biggest issue on 5Ghz device(s)...very frustrating. Have logged a support call, 1.3.0 has properly broken my C6 it seems; unless it is just busy dying...

Another strange nuance, changing the 2,4ghz channel to 20mhz, results in channel 11 after a reboot, changing it to auto or 40mhz, results in channel 5. Such a shame we can't downgrade the firmware.

I've also noticed that 2 hidden ssid's are now also being broadcast from the router, why is this?

The problem has also changed slightly, not only is it the issue of it not saving the selected wireless channel, but the 2,4ghz network periodically slows to a crawl, causing my roku to stop streaming, it doesn't support 5ghz wifi or an ethernet cable so this is really infuriating.

I haven't heard anything back from support since this morning.

Just give us the previous firmware back until you can fix the problem!

@spies I'm glad I didn't update the firmware, reading that rolling back was not an option scared me haha.

The two unwanted wireless networks SSID is part of a new backdoor for TP-Link routers, I mean, a new feature!! Sorry ;) It's been discussed in this thread:

https://community.tp-link.com/en/home/forum/topic/170160?replyId=429064

OneMesh uses them, and they are active even if you don't use OneMesh, no way to disable them, it's crazy. I always recommended C6 as an affordable router, but these movements and half cooked firmwares... ufff.

This firmware should have been either an optional beta version or provide the means to rollback.

Is there no way to use tftp recovery to restore the previous firmware?

Strange, if you turn off wireless it continues to broadcast hidden SSID.  Funny... Also to point out, we do not need hiden SSID, if we do not use One mesh.

@Fane that's bad that it still broadcasts, this is not on TP-Link you've ruined a perfectly good router.

FIX IT.

@user91

I updated because I was having issues and it was (initially) probably my ISP. So I basically had an issue and updated due to that and then it got worse; and I only realised it was router after a huge back and forth with my ISP. Anyways, here we are...ordered a Mikrotik HAP AC2 meantime as replacement. Will keep C6 as a backup once it is sorted.
