Model: RE650
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: RE650(EU)_V1_190521

Hello,

I have purchased TP Link RE 650 AC2600 Wifi Extender few days ago and on the extender only 2.4GHz light is on and it never shows light on on my 5GHz and unable to detect 5GHz wireless network of my root router (Tenda AC15 1900Mbps Wifi router).  I tried changing the 5GHz Wifi channels on my root router to 149, 153, 157 & 161 (these are only available) and still Extender is unable to detect 5GHz from my root router.

Can you please help me how can I get TP Link RE650 Extender to get connected to 5GHz band from my root router.

My Tenda AC15 1900Mbps is already updated to latest firmversion i.e. "V15.03.05.18_multi" still no use.

Is there a way to access 5GHz band as 2.4GHz band is not usefull.

I am having a 200Mbps broadband connection.  My Tenda AC15 1900Mbps router is installed in a room.  When I access the Internet from a hall (10 meters away), I am getting the speed of 80Mbps to 100Mbps and that is why I purchased this TP Link RE650 Extender thinking that it will extend the wifi coverage, however when I connect through TP Link RE650 Extender on 2.4GHz band the speed is significantly dropped to 20Mbps to 25Mbps, it doesn't make any sence.  This extender is more expensive than my Root router.

Can someone please assist me on enabling 5GHz on my TP Link RE650 AC2600 Extender?

Maybe you can try setup RE650 1 meter from router (Tenda AC15) making sure device is not faulty (5Ghz). Than with extension cord gradually you move to 2M, 3M, ... 10M

@kokwai.

I already tried within one meter and with wired connection 5GHz band is not showing up only in TP Link RE650 extender, however I always connected to 5GHz Tenda AC15 router with all my devices (Mobile Phone, Laptop, Android TV etc) and I never face any problem with my 5GHz band on my Tenda AC15 router.

I think there is something wrong with TP Link Extender only

@TVSK

Click 5GHz Wireless Scanner does any AP show (including your neighbour) if possible mobile phone temporarily switches on Hotspot select 5GHz only.

If the AP shows Zero/None. *Recommend step

If the AP shows but can't connect. Try manual key SSID, select security & key password. Try connect Mobile Phone hotspot also. *Recommend step

Recommend step
You can try Factory Restore if still the same, then Firmware Upgrade after done upgrade click Factory Restore. *firmware upgrade best do with wired connection PC>RE650. my personal preference after firmware upgrade success will go factory restore.

My RE650 when clicking the 2.4GHz Wireless Scanner does not detect any AP. That is impossible, my laptop or mobile can detect at least 20 AP 2.4GHz. Only firmware upgraded & factory work for me.

I have already upgraded my firmware to "RE650(EU)_V1_190521" and even after factory restore it will not downgrade and it will be the same. I followed all steps specified by you, still I don't see 5GHz band and light on the TP Link externder.

@TVSK

AP is Access Point. when you click wireless scanner. below my neighbour AP. you can try this step "use a pin to press and hold the Reset pinhole button until all the LEDs flashed momentarily"

I got the same problem with you, the thing is, RE 650 cannot recognize 3 digit Channel from the Wifi Router, its either you change this to 2 digit channel or you cannot use it at all.

I wonder if there is any action from TP link about this, as some time we cannot change the wifi channel in our router.

@mfhd104

Good day.

@TVSK, Sorry for the delay.

Did you still have the same issue?

If yes, we would like to follow up on your case by email, and please have a check of your message box.

@mfhd104

Is your main router also Tenda AC15 1900Mbps Wi-Fi router?—if not, what is the model of your router?

Have you tried to change the channels on the main router

And except the main router’s signal, are you able to detect any other 5Ghz network?

Thank you very much!
