I've just installed a deco S4 system which is great but I think I could do with an additional node. 
 

im thinking of buying a single M9 plus and I would like to make that the node connected to the modem. 
 

I understand how to add an additional node but once I've added the M9 how do I make that the main node? Just unplug the current S4 and plug the M9 in?

Hello, you can add the Deco M9 to the same mesh network of the Deco S4 via the Deco app first, then refer to the below guide to set the M9 as the main Deco:
