Model: TL-WA855RE
Hardware Version: V5
Firmware Version: 855rev5-eu-up-ver1-0-1-P1[20200923-rel56646]

I get 40% speed of my actual internet speed when using wifi of the TP link Range extender.

I spoke to TP link customer support, reset (hard and soft) the device. upgraded the firmwar, changed wifi channels.

But still nothing fixed the issue, I still get 40% of my actual internet speed

Anyone experience the same issue ?

@Soumik

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

For the 855re, It is based on the half-duplex system, “receive” and “send” cannot be carried out simultaneously.

its maximum is 45Mbps(855RE supports 150m/s at one direction itself—300m/s both ways  , but due to the limitation of main router, it would be 45M/s for one way ) at one direction because half of the time PC needs to wait for WA850RE to receive data from the router and WA850RE cannot send data to PC at that moment. So actually, the final wireless internet download speed would be around 50-60%, and Ethernet connection speed would be 80-90%;

And have you tested the Ethernet speed directly from the 855re as well, not from the main router?

Thanks a lot.

Update:

Recently we’ve released the newest firmware online for TL-WA855RE V5 on our official website which is 200923, and we’ve got a lot of updates here:

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2959/

It’s recommended to upgrade to the new firmware following the instruction How to upgrade the firmware of my range extender (new logo)? as soon as possible, and you can get the new firmware from the below address:

@Soumik

Good day,

Thank you very much for your time and patience.

Sorry for the delay.

What is the model number of your home router and how much speed you could receive from the router?

And how about the speed from the TL-WA855RE

May I know the distance between the router and 855RE?

How long have you had the extender and did the issue start since you bought it?

If possible, did you have any wired laptop which could help us test the Ethernet speed as well?

Thanks a lot.

@Solla-topee

Hi, thanks for reaching out. Below are the details

Home router - Binatone DT920W wireless VDSL router

Speed on home router - 45Mbps download / 6Mbps upload

Speed on tplink range extender - 15Mbps download / 6Mbps upload

Distance between home router & Tplink - Doesnt matter, as even when both devices are placed next to each other. 0cm airgap, even then the speed on tplink is 15Mbps.

I received the tplink device on 19th October 2020 and since day one this speed issue has existed.

My desktop is connected to home router over ethernet. Speed on ethernet is also 45Mbps.

Hope this helps...
