I have an existing VR-1600V NBN/Modem Router with the SSID Configured at one end of the house

The other end of the house I have an Apple Airport Extreme, same SSID and password, so devices moving from one end of the house to the other seemlessly change to the different Wi-Fi Routers.

I want to replace the Apple Airport Extreme.

One end of the house the devices getting their IP address from the VR-1600 get a 192.168.1.XXX Address

I have configured the AX-20 seems to work in Router mode, the WAN Port connected to the existing network, with the Same SSID and password, but when devices connect to it they get a 192.168.0.XXX address

If I disable the DHCP Server on the AX-20 so the devices connect to the AX-20 I lose connection to the AX-20 and need to factory reset it to connect back to it

If I switch it into Access Point Mode, I also lose connection to the AX-20 and need to factory reset it to connect back to it

I also tried connecting the Cable to the LAN port on the AX-20 to the existing network this resulted in the same disconnections

 

Am I stuck to having it in Router Mode and the devices changing IP addresses as they move from the front of the house (VR-1600) to the rear of the house (AX-20) ?

 

Can someone suggest a configuration that I can use

In my opinion you should use AP mode via WAN port with DHCP server in auto or off mode on the AX20. I would prefer DHCP server to be off since your primary router has DHCP server enabled already. You can set LAN port of AX20 as SmartIP (DHCP) or static (192.168.1.254 for ex.). I would choose static IP so I can access AX20 web interface easilly.

Hi

Thanks for the reply, my bad yesterday there was no wireless clients connected on the AX-20, Network Map / Connected Clients Section today there is, so looks OK

Thanks for the information

I have configured as mentioned, the AX-20 Wireless has merged with the existing wireless network so the same SSID/Password is available throughout the house now

I had changed to static IP address but it has not retained the address I provided to it, it changed to dynamic when the device restarted, but this is also OK as I know its IP address and I can connect to it to manage it.

The DHCP on the AX-20 is now in AUTO, and the VR-1600 is still providing the IP addresses now so that is OK

 

The only thing is that I can't find the wireless clients connected to the AX-20 to make sure the clients are connected to that device on that end of the house.

I can see the wired clients on the device but not the wireless

The VR-1600 only shows the wireless clients connected to it not the AX-20
