Hey,

I have 6 Powerline's.

2x 4010 (1 old logo, 1 new logo)
3x 4220 (2 old logo, 1 new logo)
and 1x 4020 passthrough.

My current set up is 4020 to the router.
1x 4010 in the same room as the router supplying internet to another device. 1x 4220 at the bottom of the stairs with intention to provide internet upstairs via an ethernet cable.

Upstiars I have a 4010 next to the top of the stairs, ready to recieve the ethernet and distribute to the upstairs circuit, and 1x 4220 in another room upstairs providing internet to a device.

My issue is this:

When I connect the cable going upstairs, it knocks out all the upstairs connections. I've tried connecting via ethernet to 4220 upstairs instead and connecting into the adapter that has the cable from downstairs into it, but nothing.

As soon as I disconnect the cable running up the stairs I can connect with the adapters upstairs, but the connection speed is half that of if I connect with one of the downstairs adapters. If I connect directly to the cable running up the stairs I get the speed I expect, as if I was plugging in directly to the router.

I'm sure i've used an ethernet to 'feed' an adapter from another adapter before, or am I wrong? Or do I need to put the upstairs adapters on a different network name so they don't get confused with downstairs? Or can i even move my router and directly feed both circuits but have them on the same network name? I just want the same speed througuout the house!

I've spent the whole day on the chat service with customer support and they were very helpful but didn't really answer my question. I was hoping to have more luck here...

Looking forward to hearing any suggestions or advice!!
Thanks,
S

@Minimonkay

Hi,

 Sorry that I am quite confused about your powerline structure;

In case there is any mistake, could you please draw a detailed  floor map about how these 6 adapters are connected to each other and where they are located in?

Thank you very much.

@TP-Link

Yes of course.

When the red ethernet cable going from downstairs to upstairs is plugged in, none of the upstairs Powerlines are connected to the internet.

When it's not plugged in, they are connected but nearly half the speed of those connected downstairs.

No other ethernet a are being used between Powerlines in the house.
