I just recently purchased the AC1200 Wireless router and now I've tried to plug my computer via LAN cable, I have 1000mb/s connection from my provider but my computer only gets 100 mb/s. The cord is a CAT 5E. Can anyone tell me what the issue is?

Thanks

Hello, is the model number Archer C1200? Please confirm this by referring to the device bottom label.

May I know what is the brand and model of the Ethernet card on the computer? Can you get 1000Mbps negotiation speed when it is connected to the ISP modem/line directly?

How about the negotiation speed on the C1200 web page? Please check it as per the below guide, show us the screenshot:

https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2472/

Use a different Ethernet cable (Cat 5e/Cat 6) or if that persists change the negotiation speed to 1000Mbps and test again. You can find it under Advanced -> System Tools -> System Parameters:

@Kevin_Z

Hey Kevin.

The model number is indeed Archer C1200 (EU). The Ethernet card I have is Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

When I try to see the negotiation speed under BASIC-Router and scrolling down, the site doesn't show me anything, I've attached all the info that I see there. When I tried to go and see the negotiation speed in Advanced settings it said "auto negotiation" if I try to change that manually to 1000mbps full duplex my internet connection goes out and the site say "WAN port is unplugged" though I have not touched my router. I change it back to auto negotiation and the internet comes back.

I don't currently have another cable, just the CAP5E. When I connect directly to the modem I don't get any connection.

May I know who is your ISP? What is the WAN connection type you choose on the C1200 when it is connected to the modem? If it is a dynamic IP, then you should be able to get the internet access when connecting the computer directly to the modem, please confirm again.

If it is PPPoE, then you will need to dial up on the computer when it is connected to the modem, you can check this guide, connect the computer directly to the ISP modem, then dial up on the computer to confirm if you can get an Internet access, confirm what is the link speed also:

For Windows: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/921/

For Mac: https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/285/

If the speed is also 100M b/s, please confirm with your ISP what is the bandwidth they provide, or they will help you troubleshoot.

Hey Kevin. Connecting to the Modem does not work, though I use dynamic IP. My ISP told me this was a known issue with this specific router that though it was advertised to have 4x 10/100/1000 Ethernet ports they were capped to not provide 1000mbps and were technically falsely advertised.

Not sure what the truth is but I assume I will just be returning the router to the vendor and getting a different one.

Thanks for the assistance though.

The Archer C1200 is capable of 10/100/1000Mbps, which is auto-negotiated with the modem as well as the end-devices. If there is no internet from your modem, you should fix that part first, as the router is generating the internet from the modem.

However, if you still want to return the Archer router, and the return window is still open, you can do that on your own.
