Same adaptor, same network, different pcs, different internet performance
I got a new pc (win10) and an older laptop (win8.1)
I use the tp link adaptor to connect to the internet.
Playing the same online game, I get lag spikes every 3-4 seconds on the pc, while on the laptop I get none.
I believe I have installed all the neccessary drivers.
Why could this be happening?

@MadHoly Good day,
May I know did you disable the self built adapter on laptop when test tp-link adapter?
Does the ping lag if you use the self- build network adapter on laptop when connected to the same Wi-Fi?
You could try this chipset driver for TL-WN821N V5/ V6 and see if helps:
https://static.tp-link.com/2019/201911/20191129/Driver_RTL_8192EU_TL-WN821N_V5.zip
If issue persist, please help confirm some details that will help to locate the problem, much appreciated!
- May I know does the issue only happen when you play online games , how about web browsing or any particular game got this problem?
- Does the issue happen on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz? What is the model of main Wi-Fi router?
- Can you share us photo of the motherboard info and driver date and lag/ spike results, thanks!

@Solla-topee Greetings
1) I disabled the wifi from the laptop, the tp link adapter shows up as wifi2 and I only used that, these are the results
as you can see with some minor spikes it's pretty consistent
If I use the built-in adaptor the ping varies wildly and is generally worse.
These are the ping tests on my new pc:
The ping spikes are CONSISTENT, every few seconds. This answers another of your questions, these lag spikes are what I perceive in games, web browsing is fine and I don't notice problems but games (I played paladins and dawn of war soulstorm) online every few seconds freeze up and then resume.
I believe I can only run in 2,4 Ghz since I don't remember finding a 5Ghz option on my network settings.
The router model is
Router TP-Link Archer VR400 Modem VDSL2/ADSL2+ Wi-Fi AC 1200Mbps
Here is the driver on my new pc
Motherboard is an optiplex9020
PS I unzipped the chipset and ran a ping test and the results were the same

@MadHoly Hello,
You mentioned ' If I use the built-in adaptor the ping varies wildly and is generally worse.' Does this mean it could the issue on modem/ ISP side, not the issue TL-WN821N?
Just to double confirm, if not using TL-WN821N, is there any Ping lag issue ?
If Modem has the high lag problem you could try suggestion in this FAQ :
What should I do if I get the high ping value from TP-Link Wi-Fi router?
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2723/
> Please wire a PC to VR400 moidem by Ethernet cable and play game, and see if there is any high ping on wired connection?
> If the problem is only on wifi, you could login VR400, enable 5Ghz wifi and change a different SSID for 5Ghz, and see if the issue on 2.4Ghz 5Ghz
You could try a different channel/ Channel width for that wifi band and test performance
Here is an FAQ to login to Modem : https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/1200/
