Model: Archer AX20
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.0 Build 20201023 rel.69987(5553)

Hi,

First post here :)

I have a home network with 3 devices, with 240 Mpbs Internet speed:

- Archer AX20 (HW 1.2, latest firmware - 1.2.0 Build 20201023 rel.69987(5553)) - 192.168.2.1

- RE200 (V4, latest firmware - 1.0.7 Build 20200922 Rel. 39466)) - 192.168.2.2

- RE505X (V1, latest firmware - 1.0.10 Build 20210223 Rel. 192200(6985)) - 192.168.2.3

About 30 devices connected (smart devices, computers, tvs, etc)

They are configured with OneMesh (SmartConnect enabled).

Main issue I'm having now is very high ping times in my local network, very few devices being used (3 computers) at the time of below screenshot.

I would expect that in a local wifi connection, ping times would be at most <5ms.

Signal strength is very good on each of the repeaters, which are in opposite sites in relation to the main unit (AX20).

Any suggestions what I should try to improve it?

Best regards,

Andre Carraretto

@AndreCarraretto Good day,

Thank you for your clear post, we could do some troubleshoot on the router first then your range extender .

Here is a troubleshooting FAQ for high ping issue on router, please try suggestions here

What should I do if I get the high ping value from TP-Link Wi-Fi router?
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2723/

>  To exclude the issue, please wire a PC to router by Ethernet cable and ping Router's LAN IP & WAN IP ( Advanced-- Status page-- Internet --IP address )

> If the problem is only on WiFi, you could login router,  disable Smart Connection and customize different SSIDs for 2.4Ghz & 5Ghz, and see if the issue on 2.4Ghz 5Ghz?

You could try a different channel/ Channel width for that Wi-Fi band and test performance

@Solla-topee, I have some updates.

AX20 and RE505X are now using new firmware (1.3 and 1.0.11 respectively). Smart Connect is also disabled so I have 2 SSIDs (one for 2.4Ghz and another for 5Ghz).

With wired connection, pings are always <1ms.

Besides the high internal network pings (it comes and go throughout the day), I can get good speeds (SpeedTest and fast.com). I believe it may be caused interference, I there are lots of wifi networks near me (I'm using channel 48 on 5Ghz for now).

So you think I show tweak these settings?

In reality, I would like to set 5Ghz Wifi Channel in the AX20 to Auto, but when I do so, RE505X cannot get 5Ghz signal. The connection between AX20 and RE505X on 5Ghz only works when I set the channel (either 36 ot 48). Any known incompatibilities between these 2 units?

Because in auto mode I believe both units would be "chasing" the best channel to use from time to time.

Best regards,

Andre Carraretto
