Hi,

I'm planning to buy a triple set of Deco M5's. My main M5 will be connected to the media converter (glassfiber to UTP) so that I can leave out the modem/router that's given by the internet provider.

For this provider, I need to configure VLAN to ID 300 (just for the internet, i don't have IPTV)

According to this link https://www.tp-link.com/nl/support/faq/2465/   this is possible.

Now my question is, can I use the second port on the main M5 for wired network around the home? I'm planning a UTP cable to a switch further in the house.

For me (new to this business) it is confusing that it says in the screen that the second port can only be used for IPTV (which I dont have).

@TP-Link

Cool, thank you.

Now I'm just curious why it says in the screens that you can only use it for IPTV.

Hi, May I know where did you see that information, on the user manual?

At the very beginning, if you enable the IPTV, the 2nd Ethernet port is reserved for IPTV only;

While if the IPTV is not enabled, there is no such limitation.

Later with the firmware upgrade(1.5.0 and above), IPTV is also available for the Ethernet ports on satellite Deco, such as:

https://www.tp-link.com/en/support/faq/2421/

@TP-Link

Hello,

As I don't have the units yet I got it from the manual.

For my internet connection (I don't have IPTV), I need to set a VLAN ID = 300. As I understood it on page 28, I need to switch on IPTV/VLAN to accomplish that. In that screen, in the manual, it says 'the other port can only be used for IPTV service'.

So that's where I got it, but maybe I understood it wrong.

My Deco's will arrive this afternoon, so I'll let you know if it works like I hope it will smiley

I received the units and had it all working within 10 minutes, what a great product.
