TL-MR6400 use as access point?
I just bought TL-MR6400 to expand my network and have the ability for 4G internet backup connection.I dont know if i am doing sth wrong but i cant make it to work as an access point, works fine as wireless router but when i try to set it up as access point and disable its dhcp i fail.. Any help with configuration for access point would be deeply appreciated.. thanks in advance

Exactly !! (4g mode/dhcp off/lan ip set in the range of main router) It works normally and i also have access to mr6400's menu anytime.. Its reasonable, cause in wireless router mode wan and lan ip range must be differnet, but in 4g router mode without sim there is no "wan ip" , so mr6400 lan ip can be in the range of the main router and act as access point.
Thanks you for your time and interest on the case!

After a lot of testing i managed to make it behave like kind of access point.. When cable(from the main router) is connected to LAN/WAN port it behaves like a router no matter what, if i set it up like a router, then connect the cable to some other port, except lan/wan,then turn power off and on (reboot doesnt work always) then it works like an access point, but for some reason i dont have access to the device menu for configuration..

Hi,
Since MR6400 does not have the separate access point mode, so it is set to be wireless router mode with DHCP off and one of the yellow LAN port(not WAN port) on MR600 needs to be connected to the main router, which makes MR6400 work similar to an access point.
If the AP mode is set up correctly, it would get IP address from the main router, no longer 192.168.1.1/192.168.0.1/tplinkmodem.net, so you need to find it on the router DHCP client page or setting up the static IP address, which is on the IP range of the main Deco before you disabled the DHCP server of MR600.

@TP-Link thanks for the reply
It's working as access point since the last post with no problem, except that i cant access the menu.. i set up a static ip address in mr6400, also i reserved the same lan ip at the main router for mr6400's mac address, having the cable from main router on lan, but i cant "see" it at all.. Neither from tether app..All the deviced connected to mr6400 get an ip from the main's router dhcp. When i connect the cable to wan port then mr6400 works as router automatically, responds both at the factory default 192.168.1.1 also at the 192.168.100.50 (static assigned -gateway 192.168.100.1 main router) and all the devices get an ip from mr6400's dhcp. Strange thing is that this works without disabling DCHP at the MR6400.. When i tried disabling dhcp at mr6400, i couldnt access the menu as router neither working as access point..

Hi,
When MR6400 with DHCP off, and the WAN port is connected to the main router, MR6400 could still assign IP addresses, which is something unexpected.
And I think when MR6400 is used as an access point, it might no longer support the Tether App.---I will test on my side and report later.
But the web UI should still be accessible via the static/reserved IP address.
Were you able to ping the IP address when connecting to its Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection?

cable from main router(192.168.100.1) at lan port & working(very well) as access point, dchp enabled(not sure for that anymore) on mr6400, ping request time out (but i will check again to make sure that mr6400 has 192.168.100.50)

i ve notices some unexpected things and thought about sharing.. TL-MR6400 was working fine as access point most of the time (at least i thought so), but i noticed that with some devices dhcp "was working as enabled" and with some other devices not.. i have 2 laptop connected same time same conditions, one is taking lan ip from main router 100.x and having internet working (i couldnt access router menu) , the other is taking 1.x lan ip and without internet (router menu could be access at 1.1)..
Long story short.. i tried sth different that seems to work until now.. After a factory reset i noticed that my internet was working, when i simple didnt change the operation mode to wireless router mode(forget to mention that was the 1st thing i was doing). i kept 3g/4g router mode , disabled dhcp , set a lan ip in the range of 100.x and finally i get the as much like access point mode !!! dhcp of mr6400 looks disabled and stays that way, i get access to the router menu and everything looks fine

Hi, Thank you for the update and I think the case is getting more weirder now.
Here is what I thought:
Case 1:
With MR600 on the wireless router mode, with DHCP enabled, but LAN-to-LAN connected to the main router.
The wired devices connected to the MR6400, are getting an IP address from the main router(192.168.100.x), the internet would be working fine.
The wireless devices connected to the MR6400, are getting an IP address from 6400(192.168.1.xxx), there would be no internet.
If this is what you are having now, MR6400 is only working as a hardware switch and wired devices are able to get the correct IP bypass MR6400.
But if both two devices are wired(or wireless) to the 6400, and one is 192.168.100.x, the other is 192.168.1.1 which is quite strange.
So you could still change the LAN IP of 6400 to be 192.168.100.50 and disable the DHCP, then connect LAN-LAN to the main router.
Since in this way, there would be no internet service and please help me get the following information so that I could forward your case to the senior engineers for further assistance:
1. what is the model number of your main router?
2. what is the IP settings on the laptop when it is wirelessly connected to the MR6400?
3. Please try to ping the LAN IP(192.168.100.50) and gateway 192.168.100.1 and save the pictures for me.
Thank you very much.

i did some test trial and error
You are right about case 1, that is what happening!
i had some cases that i had 100.x wireless but i could not find a "pattern" to repeat, so cant be sure.
When Lan to LAN/WAN port and dhcp enabled things are clear, working nice as router
When DHCP is disabled i had too many different results/cases, doing same things having different results..
sometimes it was like dhcp was enabled, sometimes i was getting APIPA , sometimes its was like AP.
A thing i noticed is that reboot and plug off/on had different results..
I thinks since there is no access-point mode, is a bit asking too much expecting to work perfectly , but the best way is with SIM router mode enabled..

Thank you very much for the update.
I did check the pictures you have sent and It seemed sometimes MR6400 seemed to work fine, sometimes not.
(under the wireless router with the different combination: DHCP enabled or not, LAN to WAN/LAN or LAN to LAN)
But I do have one confusion, at the end of the email, you mentioned that “change to sim router mode enabled (without sim), working perfectly!!!!!”, did you mean if MR6400 is on the SIM router mode with DHCP disabled and LAN to LAN connection, MR6400 would be able to work normally like an access point?
Thank you again for your time and patience.
