Model: Archer AX1500
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.2.1 Build 20210513 Rel. 79745(5553)

I have just installed a AX1500 in my house and I find the 2.4Ghz network providing les than 1/10th of the actual speed available, even when the 5G band is providing the full speed. I have about 60 devices connected to this at a time, most of which are smart home devices working in 2.4g. I find the lack of speed a major issue with this device. I have contacted technical support and they said to try changing the channel to either 4 or 6 or 11. I have tried that without any success, What can be done?

Also what is maximum number of devices this router can handle RELIABLY?

Changing the channel for 2.4 GHz has been suggested to avoid possible wireless interference from your neighbours, if you live in highly congested area.

That could be checked with a software like this one - https://www.metageek.com/products/inssider/

If that doesn't help the you can try lower the number of connected devices (by powering them off) and see if that will improve the 2.4 GHz band speed.

In general the AX1500 should be able to handle about 25-30 devices at 2.4Ghz band - it supports WI-Fi 6 only on the 5 GHz band.

@terziyski Are you sure that it can only support 25 to 30 devices?

Actually I have only 25 devices connected to the AX1500 directly in 2.4G. And about 5 devices in 5G. The rest of the devices are connected through a access point. I have checked the congestion of the band but it seems to fine. There are absolutely no overlapping spectrums, even my access point is working in a different channel. Considering the numer devices is just 25, I still dont know why this issue is happening. Could it be any hardware issue with the router?

On the bottom sticker you can see which FW region device is and the HW version.

I believe you have the HW v1.2.

Here are the latest FW release notes:

" 5. Increased the maximum wireless clients of single-band network from 64 to 128 "

So the number of devices shouldn't be a problem.

Try these wireless settings:

And additional settings:

Finally, if you're not using OneMesh feature turn it OFF.

For a brand new device, a hardware issue is highly unlikely.

@sheminasalam

Have you tested the connection speed with fewer devices connected to 2.4 GHz band ?

If there's no wireless interference around you and the router settings are fine, then that would be next thing to test to exclude a hardware issue.

I believe its not a hardware issue because I returned the router and got a replacement today which again is showing the same issue. Also the customer care of TPlink has said it can support way above than 25 devices in 2.4G

Have you tried to fix the "Channel Width" setting to "40 MHz" for the 2.4GHz? Give it a go.

BTW, how did you test the speed? How about the link speed on that device that you are testing the speed? Verify that your client device actually supports dual-stream (2×2) and 40 MHz channel width operation. To do this you need to check on the client device if it reports a connection speed of 300 Mbps (or at least something between 200-300 Mbps).
