Model: Archer C80
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.10.0 Build 210716 Rel.51301n

My HP EliteBook 840 G2 is not able to connect to the WiFi network set on TP-Link Archer C80 AC1900 router either to 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz SSID and getting the error "Can't connect to this network" even if the WiFi password is correct or by pushing the WSP switch on the router.

But the laptop does connect to 2.4 GHz or 5.0 GHz SSID set at my Netgear R6220 AC1200 router.

The Archer C80 router has been updated with the latest firmware (1.10.0 Build 210716 Rel.51301n). The Wireless network security option is set to WPA2-PSK with AES Encryption (similar to Netgear Router) but has MU-MIMO enabled.

The laptop is running with Windows 10 (21H2 OS Build 19044.1415) OS and Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7265 WiFi card that comes with the laptop.

The laptop did not work with the window's default driver so I tried to get the driver (Ver: 18.33.17.1) from the Intel site still it did not help.

Tried with the default windows driver for the network adaptor - Did not work.

Tried with updated driver from Intel - Did not work.

Removed the device and installed it again - Did not work.

Disabled and Re-enabled the WiFi network - Did not work,

Tried netsh winsock reset - Did not work.

Clean Installed Windows 10 - Did not work.

Please help guide me on how the computer can connect to the WiFi router.

Thanks.

EDIT-1

1) Temporarily disabling the Security Key on TP-Link router DOES help the Laptop to connect both 2.4 and 5.0 bands.

2) Setting the Security Version to "WPA-PSK" DOES help the Laptop to connect both 2.4 and 5.0 bands, but having this setting set to the default value "WPA2-PSK" or "Auto" does NOT connect.

Have you tried to Forget(Delete) the wireless network profile in Windows 10 laptop, re-add the wireless network and then test again:

Hello, it sounds more like a Windows setting issue or driver issue on the HP EliteBook 840 G2 laptop, please follow this guide to troubleshoot first:

https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/hp-laptop-not-connecting-to-wifi-on-windows-10-solved/

If the issue persists, I would suggest resetting the C80 to factory defaults to exclude any settings that you've not been aware of but may affect the laptop's Wi-Fi connection, then reconfigure it from scratch, don't change any advanced settings, just set up internet access and create a password for the wireless network. Try to connect to the wireless on the HP laptop and confirm.

@Kevin_Z

Thank you for your input on trying the driver troubleshoot in the given link. Did all those but still no luck.

Later I did a factory reset to C80 and only stuffs that I changed were Internet Connection login details and SSID with a password. Still, the computer does not connect.

The laptop is connecting to other Netgear R6220 and ASUS RT-AC5300 routers but not to the Archer C80 router.

To sumarize the issue - when your C80 is configfured to use WPA2-PSK (AES) for wireless security you can't connect to its wireless network (both bands).

Does any other wireless device in your network (PC, mobile, laptop, smart device) has this problem when connected to C80 or just the laptop in question ?

Is your Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7265 WiFi card Rev.C ? (this should be printed on the card itself)

@PrabhatNath

I crosschecked your wireless card and it should be Rev.C according to its HW id.

You're using the latest recommended wireless driver version for this revision (as mentioned in your initial post).

In the latest FW release notes it was mentioned:

" The Archer C80 router has been updated with the latest firmware (1.10.0 Build 210716 Rel.51301n). "

Was everything OK before making this FW update or the router came with this FW already installed ?

" The Wireless network security option is set to WPA2-PSK with AES Encryption (similar to Netgear Router) but has MU-MIMO enabled. "

Since Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7265 doesn't support MU-MIMO feature, can you disable it on C80 and test again just out of interest ?

Thank you for all your input. Actually, I did not test the laptop before the firmware was updated. When I got the new router I updated the firmware so did not test before the update.

Also tried to reset the TP-Link router to factory settings and just set the Internet and SSID and no other setting changes still the computer does not connect. Disabled the MIMO but still no luck.

If that is the case, I suggest reaching out to the support engineers to be advised further.
