Hi.

I've just bought a new home with network cabling installed. I've connected a brand new Ethernet switch and whilst I can 'see' a connection at the Ethernet ports in the various rooms of the house that are connected to the switch there is no actual internet available there.

for example - I plug a laptop into the Ethernet port in my home office and there is a network available but no ability to actually get online. Or, I plug in a tp link wife extender and the Ethernet light illuminates green, my phone shows full wifi signal, but I cannot connect to any websites.

I have tried to both connect the router to the switch via one of the 'normal' outputs and also via the one marked WAN. Both show the same issue as above (however when I connect to the 'normal' output, I can no longer connect to the router via wifi as it tells me the password is incorrect.

im a bit of a novice to all of this so any help would be gratefully received!

Tom.

@Baseborn

Would you be able to give us some more information on your internet setup?  The model of the router and how you have this connected would help

The switch you mentioned (TL-SG10224D) is a un-managed switch which means it will just send data out the port with no real filtering or changing... my gut feeling is this is your router and not the switch

When you are connected to the cable does your device get an IP address?   something like  192.168.1.123

Any screenshot you have would help us
