Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version:

Hello all,
I just sent an email to the support but figured I'd ask here too.

Anyone seen this before?

Letter I sent to support:

Hello,
I have used three Deco M5 for about a year and have been very happy with them.

However, today I looked into the app and it said there was a firmware upgrade available.

I agreed to have it installed.

After the installation all three devices went offline with a red light.

I’ve used them in AP mode, wired.

One of them has had a TV connected to the second port.

I’ve tried to downgrade one of them to the previous version (M5 1.0_en_1.5.3 Build 20210203 rel. 68223_US_EU_AU_CA_JP_SW_up.bin), and while the upload through TFTP went ok, the red light was back after reboot.

I tried resetting and setting up again but it still gives me the red light.

What can I do to make them work again?

@TP-Link,

yes, that is my setup that you now outed to the whole world. Are you kidding me?

You probably couldn't see the MAC of my devices as they couldn't connect. To anything.

I might have solved it though.
As the FW update was done, the Deco's must have been doing some suspicious stuff.
My edge switch blocked the ports. I unlocked them and comms is back.
Now I have the main Deco up and running.
Let's see if I can get the other ones up as well.

I'd really like to know what was in that FW update...

The professionalism here is non-existent. Jeez...

@RRacer

Hi,

Could you please send me a private message about your TP-Link ID and the MAC address of your main Deco?

And May I know what is the model number of your main ISP router?

After reboot, the main unit is red again, and would it stay red all the time?

If manually restarting this unit, would it come back to green?

And could you please connect the main unit to a different port from the main ISP router to have a look?

Any suggestions?

Tried with several firmware and all just give me a red light on startup.

@RRacer

H, I did not see any Deco under the provided MAC address.

Could you please send me a picture of the bottom label on the main Deco?

And the TP-Link ID is the email account that you used to set up Deco on the Deco APP.

Thank you very much.

@RRacer

Hi, I am really sorry for the previous information about your network topology.

It has been deleted now and I will be more careful next time.  Thank you for your understanding.

I think it might be related to the backhaul of Deco.

General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco

At the very beginning of rebooting, Deco might not detect the Ethernet cable connection and the Wi-Fi backhaul will be active for a short time.

And during this time, the network switch has the cables connected all the time and might detect both Ethernet backhaul and wireless backhaul packets from Deco, then block the communication.

Please feel free to update if you have more findings.

I would be glad to consult your case with our engineers if needed.

So that basically means that whenever there's a power outage the Deco's will now loop my network and lock the switch ports?
Not acceptable.

When can I expect a fix for this?

@RRacer

Hi, I have consulted the senior engineers, and is there any chance to turn off the loop detection or spanning-tree loop on the 3 specific ports that are connected to Deco M5?

@TP-Link of course I can turn off loop protection, but that is not a solution, it's a workaround.
Loop protection is there for a reason. If I turn it off I have a more vulnerable network.

If this isn't fixed in firmware, others will have this problem.

Please do it the right way.

Also, this was not a problem until I upgraded the firmware, so it was intruduced in the code at some time.

@TP-Link hello again,
thanks for your support so far.

I'd like to know if this issue is being adressed.

Is there a plan to fix it in the near future?
