Model: Deco X60
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 1.0.7 Build 20220113 Rel 62245

Good day,

Am planning to do wired backhaul for my home network.

Fiber Internet (1GBPS Up/Down) comes to my home (FTTH) through  the ISP provided modem (Huawei EchoLife EG8145V5), Please note this has 4 1Gig Ethernet ports.

Question please.

What set-up would work best.

Option 1:

Main Deco X60 connected to the router via Cat6E ethernet cable (less than 5 feet)

Umanaged network switch (TP-Link TL-SG105E 5-Port Gigabit) will then be connected to the 2nd ethernet port of the main deco (1st port connected to the modem)

The other 2 X60s would then connect to the switch via CAT6E cable (30 / 40m cable distance)

Option 2:

Connect all 3 Deco X60s directly to the modem port and not use a network switch

If I would need additional ethernet ports, i would use the remaining port in the router and connect the desktop switch there.

Not sure if it is a valid concern, but wouldnt it be better if each Deco get its own 1Gig port (through the modem) rather than through the switch wherein they share only 1Gig port coming from the modem? (as the switch is connected to the main deco which is ultimately connected to the modem router)

Haha! any help / guidance on what set-up would be best would be much appreciated.

Option 1: ISP---Huawei EchoLife EG8145V5---Main X60---TL-SG105E------30m cable----Satellite Deco-1

                                                                                                               -----------40m cable---Satellite Deco-2

 It would work when Deco X60 are on wireless router and access point and you are right about the shortage that satellite Deco units share only 1G from main Deco X60.

Option 2:

ISP---Huawei EchoLife EG8145V5----Deco X60-1----TL-SG105E(if more ports are required)

                                                      -----Deco X60-2

                                                      -----Deco X60-3

It would work as well but Deco needs to be on the Access point mode.

@Raph062384 Please refer to the information above.

@TP-Link

Thank you.

I am using the Deco in AP mode.

For a cleaner look / set-up, will this work?

ISP---Huawei EchoLife EG8145V5---TL-SG105E ---3 Deco X60

For the set-up, what will be assigned as the main deco? any of the 3?

@Raph062384

ISP---Huawei EchoLife EG8145V5---TL-SG105E ---3 Deco X60
Yes, this network topology is okay when Deco are in AP mode.

And any of 3 can be the main. It doesn't matter which one. When you configure, the one which is connected to the modem is the main Deco. After you set up deco network, just change the operation mode to access point mode on Deco app, then all the deco will be access point.

@TP-Link

Thanks for all the help

When connected via wired backhaul, the deco nodes will still "talk" to one another right and still act as a mesh, giving the best possible connection etc
