TP-LINK TL-PA4020P KIT Unable to install utility
Hi, as the title says, I can't install the powerline utility. The installer gives an error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" and asks for the location of "PowerLineUtility.msi".
If I copy the extracted msi file (which has a different name) and rename it to PowerLineUtility.msi, it says that it is not a valid installation file for the product.
Then, when I cancel, it first gives "Error 1714" and then "Error -1603".
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?
Thanks

Hi @Solla-topee ,
Thanks to your pointers I was able to find a solution, specifically:
- I looked for "PowerLineUtility.msi" in the Windows registry
- I found that I had an older version of the TP-Link PLC utility, which I forgot about, that had a differently named .msi attached so that when the newer version tried to uninstall the older one it failed because the .msi no longer existed and in fact the utility wasn't even listed as installed in the control panel
- I deleted the relevant regedit line and the files on C:/Program Files (x86)/TP-LINK\TP-Link PLC Utility, then restarted my PC
- I retried the installation and it worked.
Thanks again @Solla-topee.

Hello @Silma
I'd like to share some tips and hope this could help:
Try to download new version Utlity here tpPLC Utility and see this could be installed.
Try to install the latest version of Npcap on your computer. (google for Windows XX Npcap )
Can I know do you wish to change settings or pair device using the Utility?

@Solla-topee Hello
I get the same error in trying to install the utility from the link you shared.
I already have npcap (bundled with nmap for windows)
What I need the utility for is disabling power saving mode, since I read it is a workaround for the random disconnects/lag problem I have with the Steam Link attached on the other end of the powerline.
Thanks in advance

Hi @Silma
Thank you for trying ! Do you have a different computer to give it a try?
The error message is not common and seems to relate to the computer itself instead of tp-link Utility.
I found an article online that mentioned it's related to Windows file location, I will share to you via private message. Hope that could do some help.
