Dropping connection on downloads

This has been happening for a while now - whenever I go to download a file from a web page over a wired connection the router reboots itself twice. Long and short of this issue is that I can not download files at all. Email and attachments are processed OK.
I've tried reflashing and resetting a number of times but with no improvement.
I've tried the D-Link DSL-2680 that my ISP supplied and this works fine - slow, but it works.
Any help from anyone would be very much appreciated.
