Model: Deco S4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Good Evening,

I'm looking for some clarity and confirmation of understanding please.

Previously the house has been supplied by Virgin Media and we utilised the super HUB in modem mode and had Deco's to supply the network. However recently moved house and virgin weren't available so had to go with Sky.

They supplied a modem / router all in one (SR203) which does not have a modem mode. I tried setting it up with WIFI turned off and the Deco's plugged in but certain devices were not working properly, I guess due to double NAT.

im considering binning off the SR203 and replacing it with an Archer VR400 or VR2100, setting it up as the modem only and connect the main Deco to that to then run my network.

I've seen conflicting information as to will this setup work as intended. Please can you assist. I don't want to run the Decos in access point mode as you lose so much functionality it'd be a shame to waste them.

Also any other suggestions appreciated.

Cheers

  @PJR1006

Hi, welcome to the community.

"I'm considering binning off the SR203 and replacing it with an Archer VR400 or VR2100, setting it up as the modem only and connecting the main Deco to that to then run my network. " It will work. but it is not ideal for VR400/vr200 since the whole wireless module would be useless. Have you checked with Sky whether they have any DSL bridge modem for sale since the ISP-provided modem normally has better compatibility with their service?

By the way, when Deco S4 is connected behind the SR203, it is mentioned that "certain devices were not working properly", can I have more details? what are these devices and what happened to them, maybe it is not due to double NAT?

Thank you very much.

Best regards.
