Model: Deco X20
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.0.3

Recently setup a new system with 3 devices, I'm seeing a lot of issues with connections dropping, e.g. watching a streaming service and the stream will freeze for several seconds, multiple times. I've done wifi speed tests from the same room, get consistently over 50MBps.

The app shows "everything looks good", the two satellite devices both have fair signal, to get them any closer to the main device, I'd basically have to put them in the same room.

I switched from using access points to this, so I can move around the house without needing to reconnect constantly, so far, not impressed.

Anyone else experienced this sort of behaviour? Any tips other than, move the devices closer together?

One final question, do all satellites have to be able to connect back to the main device? I was considering adding more devices (despite not having a house even close to the advertised coverage area for 3!), but can't see the point if they all have to be near to the main device (I can't get anymore than 2 close to it). If they can use other satellites to extend the network, then this might be worth trying.

Thanks.

  @PaulDT

Hi, It is suggested to refer to the suggestions on this link:

Fix unstable connection when connected to the Deco network

And Deco could also create the following network map: main Deco X20---satellite X20#1----satellite X20#2.

Best regards.

@David-TP that guide is quite basic, I'd ruled all of that stuff out already, but to step through it.

Step 1. Check the cables and connections

All are fine, I have my work laptop, connected by WiFi, right next to the main unit - no drops, perfect connection. If something were wrong here, it would be affecting everything I would assume? Only the main unit is connected via ethernet to my modem.

Step 2. Check the internet service and ISP modem

Again as above, no issues with the internet connection at all, as long as I am close to the main unit, or connected via ethernet (e.g. I have a NAS device connected via ethernet to the main unit's 2nd port - no problems with connectivity drops.)

Step 3. Restart the main Deco

Done a few times, still facing the issue. Also note, when my connection drops / hangs, the units DO NOT go red.

Step 4*. Special Reference Cases

None of these apply to me.

Thanks for your other response on the satellites, however, the more I think about it, the more I'm not sure it will help much - if the setup I have right now is experiencing drop outs, then adding more onward units isn't going to help, since the 2 existing satellites seem to be struggling.
