Model: RE550
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

Hi, before purchasing the RE550, I would like to confirm whether it is capable of providing the functionality I require. I want to use the extender create a separate WiFi network (so effectively AP mode), where the up-link connection to the router that provides the Internet connection is via WiFi (ie. it is not cabled).

Is this supported? If the RE550 does not support this, is there another TP-Link product that does support it?

Thank you.

Hi, do you mean connecting RE550 to your main router via WiFi and then create a new WiFi with a different name?

If so, that is how range extender mode works, however, please note that the range extender wireless password has to be the same as the main router even though the name can be different.
