Model: Deco M9 Plus
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.6.2 Build 20230906 Rel. 78043

Hi, Hoping someone may have an idea on how to fix my Deco M9 Plus which seems to have had a problem updating to new firmware: 1.6.2 Build 20230906 Rel. 78043

The main deco (an M9 Plus) has accepted the firmware update just fine, but the satellite M9 Plus has not. After the system rebooted, the satellite M9 Plus shows solid yellow light and cannot be found via wifi network or bluetooth. I also tried connecting it to the main deco via an ethernet cable with no success.

I reset it (one second press of the reset button) and observed no change in behaviour. I held the reset button down for about 10 seconds and it then flashes green continuously (as if its getting a firmware update), but does not change from this status. I have been unable to get it to enter a blue flashing state that might allow me to add it back into my network group.

Anyone else had this problem or have any ideas on a fix?

Thanks in advance.

  @Nick105

So I tried the http method of unbricking he deco via ethernet cable using an earlier firmware version:

Deco M9 Plus(AU)_V1_1.6.1 Build 20230403,

Deco M9 Plus(US)_V1_1.6.1 Build 20230403 and

Deco M9 Plus(US)_V1_1.5.1_210126).

Each time, I received a message saying that the update was successful, but when I unplug the deco and restart it, all I get is a brief yellow light which changes to pulsing green before changing to solid red after a short time.

Firmware Version: 1.6.2 Build 20230906 Rel. 78043 appears to be available only via the app - I can't find anywhere that I can download the .bin file.

I'm wasting far too much of my time on this.

  @Nick105

Hi, have you tried to log into the individual web UI of the satellite Deco M9 Plus with 1.5.1 to update the firmware?

(You could be able to find its IP address on the Deco APP>Click the specific  satellite Deco.)

And the download link for 1.6.2 firmware, Deco M9 Plus(EU&US)_V1_1.6.2.

By the way, I see you mentioned during the upgrade, that " all I get is a brief yellow light which changes to pulsing green before changing to solid red after a short time."

Would it go back to solid green in the end?

May I know how long you have had the Deco?

Wait for your reply and best regards.

Hi David - thanks for getting back to me. In answer to your questions:

 - have you tried to log into the individual web UI of the satellite Deco M9 Plus with 1.5.1 to update the firmware? Yes - I tried this using Method 2: Http uboot web-based interface described here: https://www.tp-link.com/au/support/faq/2958/. I got the 'Successful Upgrade' message, but the same behaviour after rebooting the deco.

- (You could be able to find its IP address on the Deco APP>Click the specific  satellite Deco.) - Unfortunately the problem Deco isn't showing up in the App. I don't believe it's connecting to the network, even when connected to a functional Deco via ethernet cable, as I cannot see it or an IP address for it.

 - And the download link for 1.6.2 firmware, Deco M9 Plus(EU&US)_V1_1.6.2. - Thanks - I just tried uploading this image to the Deco via the Http uboot method and got the 'Successful Upgrade' message, but again, after I reboot the Deco (with lan cable disconnected) it shows yellow briefly, then pulsing green for about 10 seconds, followed by solid red. If I leave the lan cable connected, it remains pulsing green.

By the way, I see you mentioned during the upgrade, that " all I get is a brief yellow light which changes to pulsing green before changing to solid red after a short time."

Would it go back to solid green in the end? - No, it hasn't done so after waiting for a couple of hours.

May I know how long you have had the Deco? - I have two M9 Plus' that I've owned for about two years and three M5s that are about four years old. The other M9 Plus (main Deco) and the three M9s are working fine on latest firmware.

Thanks again.

  @Nick105

Hi, Thank you very much for the quick reply.

I think it is very likely the hardware of the satellite M9 plus with 1.5.1 is broken.

It is suggested to contact the shop retailer or local support to check for warranty service.

https://www.tp-link.com/au/support/replacement-warranty/

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

Thanks David - still no joy here, so I think you're suggestion is good.
