2.4GHz wifi not working at all
2.4GHz wifi not working at all
I recently got a Deco BE85 as my one and only router. It's been working fine for 2+ weeks but now all of a sudden my Robot Vacuum (Roborock Q Revo) stopped being able to connect to wifi.
I see that it's incompatible with 5GHz wifi so I've been trying to set it up for 2.4GHz but I'm getting tons of problems.
I've tried:
- Connecting using the normal network (5GHz + 2.4GHz) -- doesn't work, robot cannot connect at all
- Changing the normal network to only 2.4GHz -- doesn't work, my iphone / mac / oneplus cannot find connect to the network anymore
- Setting up an IoT network only allowing 2.4GHz -- iPhone/oneplus/mac cannot find the wifi so I can't even connect the robot to it
- Setting up a guest network only allowing 2.4GHz -- iPhone/oneplus/mac cannot find the wifi so I can't even connect the robot to it
In addition I've tried:
- factory reseting the deco
- factory reseting the robot vacuum
- reseting the network on my phones & laptop
- rebooted everything
- changed wifi name and password
and nothing works. None of my devices can see any of the 2.4GHz networks, but I can see my neighbours 2.4GHz networks just fine. I'm going crazy having spent so much on an expensive router that isn't compatible with anything whereas the cheap router given by the internet provider works fine...
Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Hi, welcome to the community.
If you don't try to start the setup process of Robot Vacuum, and just turn on the Wi-Fi settings on the mobile devices, are you able to detect the 2.4GHz?
Could you please go to the Deco APP>More>Network Optimization to scan and improve the network, may I know what the current channel for 2.4Ghz is?
Wait for your reply and best regards.

@David-TP Hey, no, 2.4GHz it not detectable by any of my devices, phone / laptop or anything else. When I run the network optimization i get that 2.4 GHz is on channel 6 and that it's perfect. 5GHz is on channel 40, also perfect

Hi, Thank you very much for getting back to me.
In this way, I would like to forward your case to the senior engineers for further assistance. Please check later whether you could receive my email.
Best regards.

Hi,
I recently got BE85 and have had the exact same issue as you.
I have spent many hours with TP-Link support but have now concluded that the BE85 is faulty.
Did you manage to resolve your 2.4GHz connectivity issue?

@Martyns20 Hey, I also had a ~4hr support session with one of their engineers and my wifi has been working better now, but they had to manually run some commands on my deco and the settings will not persist if I do a reboot, so if the system would restart for some reason I would need to contact them again to set it up. This also means I can't set up automatic updates since that would reset the configurations they did to my unit, but I will contact them to see if they will fix this automatically for newer versions.
But overall I think it has been working decently since the fix (which was about a month ago) but definitely not perfect, the 2.4 wifi is a bit shaky and usually it's just better for me to use 4G on my phone instead.

Hi,
Thanks for the information, I think TP-Link engineers proposed a similar similar solution.
I would'nt be happy with on-the-fly fixes especially if they don't persist through reboots and upgrades.
I was'nt happy with the BE85, it's an expensive piece of kit and has been around for 12 months so I would have thought firmware fixes should have been made by now.
I can confirm that my unit was v1 EU and the latest firmware 1.0.13 Build 20230927 Rel.38826 and still appeared to have the 2.4GHz issue.
Anyway, I've returned it as faulty and I'm back on my DECO x20's which work just fine.
I hope that you are able to resolve your 2.4GHz connectivity issue soon.

Yep I fully agree, for me the current situation is manageable (when buying the device I was expecting fantastic), I do hope it gets better though since it was such an expensive device, I emailed them now to ask if they've made any progress on this internally, I can update here when I hear back from them. Btw I'm on a newer version than you it seems: 1.0.13 Build 20231027 Rel.52010 FYI.

Hi,
I guess you may have different hardware version?
The Deco App did'nt offer my anything other than 1.0.13 Build 20230927 Rel.38826 which is up to date apparently.
I'll be upset if there is later firmware available not offered in the app which may have avoided me returning the BE85 as faulty.

I think it's a beta firmware that they sent over for my support session. But they also had to make the manual configurations (not via the app, but connecting directly to the router via terminal) to make it work so just updating the firmware didn't resolve it

I was told by support that they released a 1.0.14 firmware upgrade that fixed the issues so I upgraded to it and now my wifi is terrible again, 2.4ghz is completely unreachable. The other tp-link mesh routers might be working fine but I doubt I will ever buy this brand again after this experience
