Deco X20 backhaul working or not
Deco X20 backhaul working or not
I'm confused about whether backhaul is working or not. At one point, my backhaul connected device used to show an Ethernet connection in the status view. Now it shows wifi. If I look at the device display, it shows both a mac address and wifi connection to my main Deco. Does that mean that backhaul is working and so is wifi. This must have changed at some point via an update.
All help, most welcome

On the deco app main screen, if you are using wired backhaul, ethernet. It should show up the cable. just like this.

@Omochao that's what I used to get. Now if I connect directly to the main Deco, I still get it. If I connect via my network, it appears to connect via backhaul for a few minutes and then appears to go to wifii.

@Omochao I have isolated the cables to one switch but the problem persists. Connected directly is fine. Given that my switch setup is unchanged, I think that I need to start testing the cables.

@Omochao i dug out another switch and put the two Decos side by side, connecting through the switch. It is now working properly. Now I need to work out where the faulty bit is. Living very close to the Pacific has a few disadvantages.
Many thanks for your help

Hi, may I know the model numbers of your old and new switches?
It is suggested to refer to this link and there are several switches that don't support the standard IEEE 1905.1 protocol which is used for Ethernet Backhaul.
General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco (Q5+Q6)
Thank you very much and best regards.

@David-TP My main switch is a TL-SG1016D, and the other is a TL-SG105(UN). I have had Backhaul running for months which is something of a mystery.

TP-link and its subsidiary, Mercusys is a hit and miss with its their firmware, sometimes it works for some, sometimes is just a disaster.
Could it be you just updated the firmware recently on the switches and only this issues start cropping up??
Can always try to rollback to previous firmware versions but again, you might lose out on new features.
Again, is a headache with techs nowadays.

@Omochao many thanks for your persistence. My switches are not upgradable but I recently upgrade the Decos to the latest firmware. I have been away on and off in January so I didn't notice it immediately.
I live a couple of hundred metres from the Pacific so moisture is always a potential problem. It's odd that everything else is fine.
