Hello all,

Looking for some advice on how to set up my system after getting YouFibre broadband installed. Previously I had Virgin Media and had their router set in bridge mode and the Deco's doing all the work. This comprised of one Deco as the main connected to the router via an ethernet and then two upstairs in a bedroom and the office.

Now YouFibre has been installed I find myself wondering how I should set things up. Currently I have the YouFibre running into the Eero device and the Decos set up in Access Mode only. So Eero is doing all the router work. This, though, means that I essentially have two networks at the same time. The bigger issue is that if I connect to the Eero Wi-Fi I am getting 400/500/600mb of the 1000mb broadband whereas the Deco drops to around 100/200mbps wherever I am in the house. This includes in the living room next to the main unit, which seems odd.

Is there a better way for me to be setting things up to get better speeds or am I essentially just limited by the Deco M5? I had read elsewhere the best I can really expect from it is 400mb anyway wireless.

Not a major issue obviously but just curious if there is something different I should be doing with the set up. I did initially try to skip using the Eero and having the main Deco plugged into the wall directly but again, it was only producing speeds of around 200mbps of the 1000mbps I'm getting.

Main Deco M5 is WiFi 5. It can deliver 400-500Mbps in almost ideal conditions, usually less. Satellite M5 will deliver half of that.

Do this for speed test:

1. Enable only 5 GHz band in Deco Main network:

2. Power off all Satellite Deco;

3. At the distance of about 1-2 meters from Main Deco M5 with unobstructed view of it run back to back multiple speed tests using OOkla app on smartphone.

This is the baseline test which will give you maximum you could have from M5 at your place.

------------------

Eero device must be WiFi 6. It is faster because WiFi 6 is faster than WiFi 5. In ideal scenario Eero could be able to deliver up to gigabit WiFi speeds, and that must be the reason your new provider gave you that Eero as a router. I googled YouFibre and from what I have read it appears it is not easy to replace their Eero router with different router.

Your long term solution should be upgrade to WiFi6 capable mesh if you want WiFi speeds matching your new Internet link. Unless you have strong preference to stay with Deco, I would recommend to get additional Eero units to add you your Eero router to make Eero mesh. You'll have to check with YouFibre Support which are compatible.

Other option could be to see if YouFibre offers additional Eero units to make WiFi mesh, nowadays many ISPs do. That would be the easiest and you could always count on their Tech Support for issues with their WiFi mesh gear.
