Model: Deco M4
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version:

At the moment I am renting a Deco set from my ISP. Since I have switched to another ISP, I need to return my Deco set.

I am happy with the current setup, so I bought a Deco M4 set myself. Right now I am in the fase of replacing the rented set with my own one.

At this moment I have created a new network (SSID) for my own Set and replaced the main Deco with my Own Deco. And here's the problem I am facing:

My own Deco won't get passed 300Mbps on Wifi. BUT when I put back the rented Deco, I get about 400-600Mbps. So I am literally taking out the power and the ethernet cable, replace the Deco and put back in the same power and ethernet cable. So it sounds like a configuration issue, since the hardware is exactly the same.

I have compared lots of settings in the Deco app, but I didn't found any differences. That's why I reach out to here, because I have no clue what I have missed.

Also, from my own Deco set, I only have the main Deco configured, the rest of the Deco's are still in the box.

Below the settings of my current setup, from the rented Deco

Wifi settings:

- 2.4 Ghz / 5 Ghz

Guest network; no

Internet connection

- ignore ping WAN: yes

- Internet connection type: dynamic IP

- IPV6: off

Advanced

- Mode: Router

- IPTV/VLN: off

- Clone Mac: off

- Fast roaming: enabled

- NAT Forwarding
  - IP ALG: enabled

  - UPNP: enabled

System

- Model: M4R

- Firmware: 1.1.2 Build 20231227 Rel.84005

- No updates available

Below two screens of my overall setup.

So again, above is my current setup with the rented Deco set. In this setup I get speeds from 400-600 Mbps over Wifi. When I replace the main Deco with my own Deco I get max 300 Wifi speed (and of course the other satellite Deco's don't work because they are configured to the rented main Deco).

@MartijnFX Set QoS to 600 mbps

Just a M4 (2-pack) user who regrets buying it

  @ImtiazAli

Thanks, but I am still getting capped at around 300. Maximum I get is 320.

My ISP delivers 1Gb, so also tried 1000/1000 in QoS, but get the same results.

Hi, do you still remember the model number of the rented Deco?

For Deco M4, Its wireless specification is:

AC1200
5 GHz: 867 Mbps (802.11ac)
2.4 GHz: 300 Mbps (802.11n)

300m/s is not bad considering the wireless speed loss and its maximum 867m/s 5GHz link speed.

A Wi-Fi 6 or 6E model would be better for 1G internet bandwidth, such as Deco X20/Deco X50.

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP My rented Deco was also a M4. I have bought the exact same model.

When saying the max speed for 2.4 GHz is 300 Mpbs, it looks like 5GHz is not used, so I haved checked this. But I see that my phone and laptop are connected to 'kantoor (5GHz)'.

The reason I don't want to give up on this is because with the rented set I got twice the speed. How can you explain this?

Thanks in advance :)

  @MartijnFX

Hi, the AC1300(5 GHz: 867 Mbps;2.4 GHz: 300 Mbps) here, is not the actual internet download speed.

When the link speed on 5GHz is about 867m/s, the expected wireless speed would be about 300-600m/s varying in distance and wireless interference.

I checked your TP-link email ID. I noticed there are:

3-pack Deco M4-V4-1.1.2;

3-pack Deco M4-V3-1.6.1;

Since the first online date of Deco M4_v3 was just a few days ago, so I think the newly-purchased pack is Deco M4_V3 and Deco M4_V4 is the ISP-rented pack.

Could you please help me check the wireless link speed on the mobile device when it is connected to the newly-purchased pack and only got up to 300m/s?

How to check the associated/link speed on a wireless client

On the Deco APP>More>Network optimization, it helps to detect the current wireless channels on 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Can you help me check the wireless channel settings on the new pack?

Later if possible, could you please switch back to the rented pack and help me check the same settings above?

Wait for your reply and best regards.

@David-TP

The link speed on my mobile phone is: 468 Mbps The wireless channels are: 2.4GHz: channel 13 5 GHz: channel 36 Unfortunately I can't check my rented set anymore because I had to send it back to the ISP.

@David-TP

I was wondering, can I upgrade my own set to Deco M4-V4? is the V4 a hardware thing or software version?

  @MartijnFX

HI, Sorry for the delay.

The V3 and V4 refer to the hardware version and V3 couldn't be updated to V4 via software upgrade.

As for the wireless link speed, it seems like you only got half of the 5GHz link speed(468m/s out of 867m/s). I think it caused the final internet speed 300m/s out of 600m/s.

Have you checked the 5GHz wireless link speed on other 5G mobile devices?

Thank you very much and best regards.

  @David-TP

Ok thank you.

My laptop is usng the 'Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac)' protocol and has a link speed of 433 Mpbs. Looks like half the speed indeed, same as my phone.
