Hello,

I'm dealing with a WiFi setup challenge in my two-story house. I wanted to achieve seamless WiFi coverage without connection drops (roaming), and after discovering TP-Link's mesh technology, I thought I had found the perfect solution.

My Current Setup:

  • Main ISP router (existing)
  • TP-Link Archer AX53 (connected to ISP router)
  • TP-Link RE700X repeater Both TP-Link devices are mesh-compatible and support WiFi 6, which seemed perfect on paper.

The Issue: While everything works fine with the main router, I'm running into problems with the RE700X. I specifically want to use it in Access Point mode (connected via Ethernet), but I can't get it to join the mesh network in this mode. It only works in repeater mode, which isn't what I want

My Questions:

  • Did I got the wrong equipment for my needs?
  • What would have been the optimal setup for my situation? (Considering I have a small house and only need two WiFi access points)

Hi,

If you want to build a EasyMesh network over Ethernet backhaul, both range extender and main router should support this function.

RE700X does not support EasyMesh over Ethernet backhaul at present. You can refer to this thread for more information.

For now, we do not have the information whether or when it would support. If you need to use it at present, you can consider on the model listed in the post above.

I ended up returning everything and getting 2 Deco X50 for the same price. Thanks for the response anyway, it was helpful.
