Model: Deco M5
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.7.8

Hi folks

I've had trouble with my Deco network for ages.

Rooms keep losing internet coverage. Ive checked with different devices.

Ive tried rearranging the set up so many times. I get improvement for a while then it fails again a few months later.

I becoming fed up with having to re distribute them so often as it's time consuming.

Also, when this happens, the Deco app reports full 145mbps service and that all devices have good wifi output. This is absolutely not the case or I'd have the usual signal in the room I'm in.

I'm not a techie. I can't fathom all the network settings. I have no idea if these are all set correctly.

But why does the network work for a while and then just stop??

Any help would be much appreciated. Is rather resolve this once and for all than have to spend money on a different brand

Many thanks

  @JustinME

Hi, welcome to the community.

I saw there are 4*Deco M5s under your TP-Link ID. Are they all wirelessly connected?

Is there any chance that you could connect them via Ethernet cables to each other for Ethernet Backhaul?

(If WiFi Backhaul is the only option now, Here is a beta firmware for Deco M5 which has distributed the 2.4GHz Backhaul channels among the Mesh systems. You can find it in the private message if you're interested in this beta version.)

If there is an ISP gateway/router in front of Deco M5. is it also suggested to set Deco into Access Point mode:

How to set up Deco to work in Access Point mode

Thank you very much and best regards.

Hi David, thank you for replying.

They are connected via wifi. I cant connect them via ethernet cable.

What is Ethernet Backhaul?

I dont know if Im interested in the beta version. Im not technical. So if it will fix the problem then yes 😊

I have a router next to the main Deco yes.

I will look up setting it into access mode.

Have a good day

Justin

  @JustinME

Hi, When the Deco units are connected via Ethernet cables, we usually call the Mesh system based on Ethernet Backhaul and the data flow between Mesh APs will pass through the Ethernet bridges.

For more details, please refer to General questions about Ethernet Backhaul feature on your Deco

I can't guarantee the beta firmware would fix the issue but it wouldn't perform worse than the current version.

The connection status only reflects an overview of network performance. If all the Mesh units are online and able to communicate with Deco Cloud, Deco APP would report "Everything looks good".

Thank you very much and best regards.
