Hi All,

I am trying to switch from my BT Smart Hub over to the Archer VR2800 for my BT VDSL line.

When I switch over the internet connection works fine, but I have a weird problem trying to get my wife's computer to connect to her work.

To connect to her work we first connect to a L2TP tunnel within Windows 10, this connects fine.  Then she needs to connect to a remote desktop session, this starts to connect to the remote PC and checks the certificate etc, but when it reaches the point 'Estimating Connection Quality' it just gets stuck until it times out.  It works fine as soon as I switch back to the BT Router, so definitely something related to the TP Link router.

I have tried everything I can think of, turning on and off the L2TP passthrough, turning the firewall off, setting up RDP port forwarding on the NAT (should not be needed), putting her PC into the DMZ, but it just won't get past this point of the connection.

The router has been updated to the latest version and factory reset, but still no luck.

I have tried setting the connection quality manually in the Windows Remote Desktop but it still gets stuck at this point.

Any suggestions would be welcome!

Thanks,

Kris

Hi, thanks for posting question here.

You may log into the web UI of Archer VR2800 and change MTU into 1420 referring to the screenshot below. (Go to Advanced>>Network>>Internet>>Edit your dial-up profile>>Advanced...>>Save).

@Marvin_S Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately that did not resolve the issue, the Remote Desktop connection is still getting stuck on 'Estimating Network Quality'.

When I switch back to the BT Router it connects immediately with no issues.

Just to confirm, the computer has no problem connecting to the internet and the L2TP VPN connects OK as well, just something is stopping the Remote Desktop connection.

I even tried setting the VR2800 into bridge mode for the VDSL connection and using my Deco X55 as the router, but the problem continues.

It feels like it should just be some setting that is not matching to the BT requirements exactly, but I have no idea what it is!
