WDN4800 causing freezing

Hey.
I built myself a new computer about a week ago and I've been having trouble which I think I've narrowed down to the TP-Link TL-WDN4800 Wireless Adapter though I'm not sure why it's causing a problem or how to fix it.
The specs for the computer are as follows:
Motherboard: Gigabyte B85M-D3H
Bios: 07/19/13 14:08:53 Ver: 04.06.05
Operating System: Windows 8.1 64-bit (6.3, Build 9600)
CPU: Core i5 4570 3.20GHz (4 CPUs)
RAM: 2 x Patriot-S 4GB 1600Mhz
HDD #1: Toshiba THNSNC128GCSJ 128GB SSD (Salvaged from old laptop and re-formatted)
HDD #2: Seagate 2TB ST2000DM001-1CH164
Optical Drive: LiteOn CD/DVD-RW
PSU: Antec Neo Eco 520W
Graphics card: Gigabyte R9 270 2GB
Case: Antec One
Network Adapter: TP-Link TL-WDN4800 Wireless Adapter
Modem: Netcomm Wireless nb604n
The computer runs smoothly when connected to the internet via Ethernet and when doing anything offline.
When the wireless card is inserted into the PCI-E slot, the computer has suffered from various issues such as:
-halting, where the mouse can move around the screen but nothing loads for upwards of 5 minutes.
-Freezing.
-Crashing Windows Explorer (but not other programs such as Google Chrome.)
-Crashing the computer to BSOD, with errors such as "Critical Process Died" and "Kernel Data Inpage Error" and "Machine Check Exception Error".
The halting or crashing of windows explorer may have been caused, instead, by a faulty install of Google Chrome which was then re-installed.
The wireless card seems to crash the computer or cause problems when it is actively receiving data.
I have tried the following:
Updating windows.
Installing the driver for the Wireless adapter from the accompanying disc.
Updating the wireless adapter driver automatically through device manager.
Uninstalling the driver and manually installing the latest driver from the manufacturer's website and again in Windows 8 compatibility mode.
Checking for RAM errors with Memtest86.
Formatting and re-install of windows.
Searched the internet for similar cases and issues.
Checked resource allocation conflicts.
Updated BIOS from version F6 to Version F8.
I checked a few other things when I was unsure what was causing the problem.
Any suggestions?
