Model: Deco X55
Hardware Version:
Firmware Version: 1.4.0 Build 20240718 Rel. 44385

Hello everyone! I recently purchased two Deco X55 units, and they've been working great, but I've encountered a peculiar issue. All of our wireless devices are working fine and speedy over Wi-Fi—much faster than my Frontier router. I do a lot of gaming on my desktop PC, so I wanted to hardwire it into the Deco using an ethernet cable. At first, the speeds were great, but I started getting seemingly random disconnects. I play a lot of online games with my friends on Discord, and I'll get intermittent disconnects every 5-20 minutes where I'll drop from both my games and Discord for a few seconds, then I'll reconnect. This seems to only happen to my PC when it's connected to the Deco with ethernet.

The Deco my PC is connected to is connected to my Frontier router. Both of the Decos are using the latest stable firmware version. Any help is appreciated!

Hi, welcome to our community.

You may follow the steps to troubleshoot:

1. Update the driver of the wired network adapter in your computer.

2. change another port on the main Deco.

3. Change another Ethernet cable between main Deco and your computer.

4. Connect your computer to the second Deco via Ethernet cable to test.

5. Change Deco network as AP mode for a try.

Thank you and best regards.

Hi @Marvin_S, thanks for the welcome and suggestions. I've finally gotten around to trying all the things you've listed, including updating my network driver, using different ports, using different ethernet cable to my desktop computer, switching places with my 2nd Deco, and I'm still getting issues. One concerning thing I'm noticing now is that I'm starting to get disconnects on my laptop that is connected through WIFI. Not sure what could be going on.

@pengusaur I have the exact same problem with a BE65 pro. The internet disconnects just long enough to drop me from a game of CoD. If I go to the desktop quick enough, I can see windows is reporting no internet. Then it returns. It goes out for maybe 5-10 seconds?  It's gotten so bad I have to use wireless. With wireless, no such issues. Problem is, it's slower. And I hate my antenna.

Did you find a solution?  This didn't happen for me until the past week or so.

Hey  @YooperDude , after Marvin made the ticket for me, I got another email from TP-Link support suggesting that I set my Deco router to use a fixed DNS. They didn't recommend one, so I went with Quad9 (9.9.9.9). Also, they didn't suggest this, but I updated my Decos to the latest firmware from the TP-Link website, which was 1.4.6. For whatever reason, this firmware wasn't detected by the automatic updater in the Deco mobile app, so I had to update through my PC. Having done both of those things, I haven't encountered any issues so far.

@pengusaur Thanks for the update!  Unfortunately I'm on the latest firmware that's available on TP-Link's site and I've been using 1.1.1.1 for DNS for a while.  Glad to hear you worked out your issue.  Hopefully they'll fix this in a firmware.  It seems really sporadic and I haven't come across many people experiencing similar issues.  Yours however was spot on.
