I use AP mode when in hotels there is a wired Ethernet cable in the room.

However, this mode just transforms the wired into wireless signal, but each device connecting must put credentials through the hotel splash page. The router acts as transparent, just transmitting the signal, that's all.

Please, TP Link, can you add the ability to spoof MAC address in AP mode (like exists in WISP mode), so that I only have to enter credentials with the first device that connects (my PC for example), then all other devices are thought to be already known, hence no need to re-enter credentials.

This is critical as I use Chromecast, and Chromecast does not offer the ability to enter credentials to the hotel splash page, so I am stuck and cannot connect Chromecast to TP Link's network in AP mode.

Adding MAC clone is not a solution for your case. In AP mode the device work as a Layer 2 switch, which means it is totally transparent and just transmitting the signal as you said. The device itself doesn't need a MAC address for communication, therefore MAC clone is meaningless in this mode.

You should try AP router mode. In router mode, the MR3020 is acting as a host, representing for other devices connected behind it. Configure the MR3020 in router mode, If you can open the hotel splash page on the first device and enter credentials, then you should gain internet access. And then the other devices won't need to enter credentials again.

If you can't open the hotel splash page, then unfortunately the hotel's network is not allowed for router mode.

There is MAC clone in router mode.

Just take a look at the emulator, to configure AP router mode on this product, you need to switch the button to 3G/4G, and then log in the web interface to choose "WAN Only" mode.

Hi, thanks for the tip, I did try this before you answered, but it did not work, it did not give connectivity unfortunately. I am puzzled that it is possible to do that from the hotel WiFi by using the tp link's WISP mode, and not possible from the wired Ethernet cable in the room. As you can imagine the wired connection is way better with download speeds of 10Mbps while the hotel free WiFi is capped at 500kbps at best!

That puzzled me too. The WISP mode is also a kind of router mode, but with a wireless WAN instead of an Ethernet WAN. If WISP mode works, then router mode should work too.

Did you used MAC clone when you succeed with WISP mode? If so, try the same MAC address on AP router mode ( 3G/4G ->"WAN Only" mode)
