Trouble permanently connecting to USB drive on Archer C7
Region : Canada
Model : Archer C7
Hardware Version : Not Clear
Firmware Version : V2_V3 (September 29th 2014
ISP :
I have a WD usb hard drive, freshly formatted, connected through USB to my brand new Archer C7.
I want to use it to store videos, music and such to be accessed from any computer or network device around the house.
I'm trying to add the drive as a server to my macbook finder. I have tried using the instructions found here: http://www.tp-link.com/resources/document/Archer_C7_V2_FTP_Server_Application_Guide_1910010819.pdf AND here: http://www.tp-link.com/en/article/?faqid=420
to help me achieve this. Unfortunately, whenever i am trying to connect to it (using go->connect to server->entering EITHER "smb://192.168.0.1" OR "smb://tplinklogin.net"), i am unable to connect to it, whether it is locally or through FTP. (the local option is preferrable, but right now nothing works) i want it to permanently appear on my finder sidebar as if it was a folder directly on my computer, technically i should be able to do that, but i cant right now.
what's bazzling me the most is that, if you look at the FTP server application guide, when it shows examples of the tp-link online dashboard, under the "USB settings" category is it showing options that i do not have on my dashboard, notably "storage sharing", "FTP server", "media server", and "user accounts".
here is a screenshot of the dashboard as shown in the application guide:
and here is a screenshot of how it appear on my router's online dashboard:
i dont understand how instructions that are supposed to be for the exact same firmware AND hardware version of my router are showing options that my router does not have. but anyways, my goal here is to connect to my usb drive, so please help out!
