Region : Canada

Model : TD-W8980

Hardware Version : V1

Firmware Version : TD-W8980_V1_140919

ISP : Teksavvy

I have this modem for about 3 months and it had been disconnecting from the ISP recently. I've unplugged it for about 5 mins and it would be okay for a few hours. I had the most recent firmware on it, TD-W8980_V1_140919 when I started using it. So I decided to downgrade to TD-W8980_V1_140408 but it also was having the same issue. So I revert back to the 140919 version. I tried to do a factory reset by pressing and holding down the reset button for about 10secs but the it didn't do anything. The lights on the modem would stay on. The lights that are constantly on are the "ON", "WIFI" and a "COMPUTER" icon. I have the wifi disable from the back of the modem so not sure why the wifi light remains on. My question is is this modem SOL? I can't get it to work properly no matter what I do. Any ideas out there?

TIA

You are still connecting a computer to one of LAN ports of W8980?
What's the IP address obtained? 169.254...?
Can you still detect Wi-Fi for W8980?
If to reset it about 15 seconds makes no difference, maybe it is faulty.

It turned out to be a defective modem. I replaced it recently but with this new modem(same model) it still keeps dropping internet connection, though, which was my original problem with the original modem. I get this error message .... ppp0 Timeout waiting for PADO packets, when it drops and tries to reconnect.
Any ideas before I do something drastically with this piece of equipment?

Try to disable UPnP on web interface of your TD-W8980.

I think it's okay now. Under the wan setting, there was another interface there," bridge type" which came as a default with the unit. Once I removed that and just left the pppoe type it seemed to be stable now.
