AC1200 Archer C50 as wireless AP extension?

AC1200 Archer C50 as wireless AP extension?

- my cable modem is hosting DHCP service for my home network, as well as dual band wireless networks
- as per the instructions at http://www.tp-link.com/us/faq-417.html I connected an AC1750 wireless router to my cable modem via ethernet port (not the WAN port on the AC1750). Works perfectly, and hosts dual band wireless networks with the same SSIDs as the cable modem, and does not host DHCP service. Happy happy.
- however, when I repeat the same steps with my AC1200 Archer c50 wireless router, it will not give me internet access - it seems to have no concept of a "default gateway" to send me through my cable modem
Why is the AC1200 not working the same way as the AC1750, and how do I configure it in this environment to forward my connected clients to the internet?
