Default DHCP Settings and Internet access in the Guest OS?

Hi,

The default DHCP Settings in my TP-Link Router (TP-Link Archer C50 AC1200) as

DHCP Server: Enable
Start IP Address: 192.168.0.100
End IP Address: 192.168.0.199
Lease Time: 120 minutes (1~2880 minutes, the default value is 120)
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (optional)
Default Domain: (optional)
DNS Server: 0.0.0.0 (optional)
Secondary DNS Server: 0.0.0.0 (optional)

I have max 5 devices connected with internet access so if I change it as

Start IP Address: 192.168.0.100
End IP Address: 192.168.0.105

I believe there will not be any issue.

I have created some Guest OSs in VMware Workstation. The network connection type of Guest Oss is NAT.

I have to assign static IP in Guest OSs. Also, there should internet access in the Guest OS.

If I assign static IP between 192.168.0.106 and 192.168.0.199 and default gateway as 192.168.0.1 in all Guest OS, will that be fine without any issue?

Pls advise me.

Regards

@EinfoMail

Is VMmare workstation a regular router? Does it possess DHCP server?

If so, you can assign a static IP for the VMmare workstation, then the IP address of the devices connected to it will be assigned by the VMware station itself.

Otherwise you can assign static IP for all the guest OSs, with 192.168.0.1 as default gateway, that should be working properly.

Good day.

@Kevin_Z

Hi,

Thank you for your reply,

Due to some issue, I couldn’t reply till long time so I am sorry for more delay.

I installed Windows Server as a Guest OS at VMware Workstation.

Now I have to setup and configure Root Domain and DHCP at Windows Server. Before this setup, I have to assign a static IP.

Moreover, I want Internet Access in Windows Server. That’s why I want to use NAT as Network Connection type of Windows Server.

As you see in my question, already DHCP Server is enabled at the router and if I am right, there must be only one DHCP is a network.

And as per router setup,

Start IP Address: 192.168.0.100
End IP Address: 192.168.0.105

At Windows Server, I assigned 192.168.0.110 as a static IP, 192.168.0.1 as a Default Gateway, 192.168.0.1 as a Primary DNS and 8.8.8.8 as a Secondary DNS.

With this setup Internet is not working in Windows Server.

I believe I explained my lab setup correctly. In this scenario can I access Internet in Windows Server?

Pls advice.

With Regards
