After all I've seen about issues, I'm wondering if I should update. Whatever I'm on currently just works, should I just leave it.

i'm currently on 1.3.1 Build 20190617 Rel. 47476

 

my M5's are model M5(1.0) presumably ver 1?

Hello, firmware 1.4.4 has fixed some issues, and it added some new features. 

 

First, you can wait a while and get some feedback from other customers who have updated 1.4.4, or you can give it a go and take some time to test its performance.
