Model: AC50
Hardware Version: V3
Firmware Version: 0.9.1 0.6 v0079.0 Build 171227 Rel.72331n(4555)

Hi,

I have Archer C50 (AC1200 Wireless Dual Band Router)

Firmware Version:0.9.1 0.6 v0079.0 Build 171227 Rel.72331n(4555)

Hardware Version: Archer C50 v3 00000001

The router is connected with a ONU for Fiber to Home Internet connection.

The router datasheet (https://static.tp-link.com/Archer%20C50(EU)(US)_V3_Datasheet.pdf) says, it supports up to 300Mbps at 2.4GHz and 867Mbps at 5GHz.

The Internet bandwidth I am paying for is 80Mbps.

I randomly check bandwidth with Ookla Speed Test within 5 meters from the router.

The house is 2 bedrooms flat and the router is hanged on a wall between both rooms.

As Internet bandwidth is 80Mbps but it fluctuates between 30Mbps to 85Mbps at WiFi. Sometimes, it goes down to 5-7Mbps at WiFi.

As its Fiber to Home connection and the router supports good bandwidth, I am unable to understand this fluctuation rang. Because of WiFi, I agree with bandwidth fluctuation up to 5Mbps.

Would you like to explain and advise me?

I’ll be thankful for giving time and explaining in details.

Regards

Hello, sorry to hear the speed is not as good as expected, please help verify some details and we will try to fix it together:

1. How did you test this speed via the router? Did you disconnect all the other devices from it and only leave one laptop or phone performing the test? How about the wireless negotiation speed on that device?

Note: If the link speed is not as good as expected, please try another wireless device with more powerful wireless cards.

2. Are you testing the speed by speedtest.net? Please try to download the Speedtest app on your phone or computer and simplify your network layout if there are other routers or RE in your network, just leave the modem and the C50 on, disconnect other devices and run the Speedtest app 3 times. Please ensure the 2.4GHz wireless channel width is set to 40MHz and 5GHz is 80MHz. Here is the guide to modify the wireless settings on the router:
https://www.tp-link.com/support/faq/2292/

3. Please disable QoS on the C50 (if there is one) or try to reset it to the factory defaults, then reconfigure it from scratch.

Additionally, please refer to the instruction below to narrow down the issue.

Good days.
