HomeShield
Dear all,
Am I the only one who finds it not normal to have to pay 55 EUR per year for functionalities to a system I paid over 500 EUR to purchase?
One of the main reasons I bought a 5 unit mesh system was that I could easily control the internet use of my young daughters. Now I learn that this will const extra?
How do you all feel about this?
Thank you for your reactions.
Kind regards
Koen

@Koen_Verdeyen I am feeling cheated just because I bought Deco once again.
They are making you pay with subscription for Time Limit in Parent control, what this cost them???? @TP-Link to call time() function two times in the code? Why users should pay for this???
I know what they will answer - "You should stayed with M9 Plus, because it is written in the product page that is paid"... Yes, but all other Decos, except X90 can't handle stable signal. So.. you should choose do you want nice signal and speed and to pay for basic functions or to have all the functions and have 30Mbp/s maximum.
TP-Link is currently like Boeing and Nokia - great hardware with really bad software, which leads to the company dissapearrance.

@Koen_Verdeyen And not only does it cost extra...IT SUCKS!!! My FREE ISP parental controls work sooooo much better. If they're gonna charge for it...they should at least make sure it functions properly. I'll probably end up taking this $300 mesh system...and use it as access points, so I can go back to using my ISP gatew

I have strong feelings against this charge also, coming from the Deco M5 units which uses the HomeCare solution which, is far superior and is free!
Personally I have raised this several times via feedback on the app and each time I get told they cannot do anything and the charge is to pay for the engineers time and effort.
I can agree some premium anti-virus feature is ok to be charged however, Parental controls, firewall and basic protection should be included for free.
Another annoyance is the adverts all over the app to upgrade which makes the product like a cheap product. I put it to the team and they say they are not even able to remove the adverts!
There is also the fact that even if you are not using the HomeShield feature, information is still sent to the 3rd party supplier Avira: [PSA] Newer TP-Link Routers send ALL your web traffic to 3rd party servers... : hardware (reddit.com)
