TP-Link Routers adn EweLink SONOFF devices not working

Model: Deco X20-4G
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: Latest

I have same issue using DECO X20-4G Router with WiFi6. Can not add devices to eWeLink account. They are added but no handshake and offline in the app iteslf. OBS it works fine with using my smart phone as a Hotspot. Did a little digging and first reason is.... If some devices experience problems connecting to the Wi-Fi 6 network, the problem may be in missing WPA3 support or the "WPA3/WPA2 mixed mode" feature. Mixed mode is intended to ensure that older clients can still connect, but in practice there are some clients who do not recognize this setting and refuse to connect at all. I went and checked in my router and WPA2 is only activated protokol. Not sure if mixed mode signaling is being signaled anyway?? Waiting for TP-Link to get competent answer. However.... A MAC address is made up of 48 bits. And those 48 bits, they're divided into two different groupings, 24 bits each. The first 24 bits, those are unique to the specific manufacturer or vendor. Those bits are called the OUI, or organizationally unique identifier. The OUI is also commonly referred to as the vendor code. Maybe eWeLink uses MAC filtering, MAC-binding??? Not sure. eWeLink support is not answering...now for 2 days allready. Since I can not connect TCP sniffer to check what is going wrong, I will test with another router of same type different manufacturer, and only WiFi5 available without WPA3 support and see what happens. If anybody has a clue and have resolved the problem, plase share! OBS ALL my devices are working appart from SONOFF modules for HVAC controll.

  @Dean_B

Hi, Thanks for the feedback.

Did it help after you tried another router of the same type different manufacturer, and only WiFi5 available without WPA3 support? By the way, can I have its model number?

WPA2 is a widely used security protocol and it should not be the problem.

By the way, are you able to see these SONOFF smart devices on the Deco APP client list?

Here are some common suggestions for your reference:

1. Please temporarily disable "fast roaming" and "beamforming" under Deco APP>More>Advanced.

2. Temporarily turn off 5 GHz under the main network.

And I also saw someone share a detailed troubleshooting guide for this issue:https://hobbytronics.pk/biggest-sonoff-ewelink-problems-and-solutions/. Maybe you could check whether any suggestions worked.

Thank you very much.

best regards.

  @David-TP

Hi David,

I switched OFF the encryption and I could pair devices with the cloud of eWeLink. They even worked fine switching them ON and OFF. They where visible on the list.

After that I changed the encryption to WPA2. And it stopped imidiatley communicating with eWeLink cloud server.

The suggestions to change radio settings and do the test do not make any sence. eWeLink has a compatible mode and you can connect 2.4G and report setting via 5G radio frequancy.

There is the hinch fron specialist in Norway  that you signall "WPA2/WPA3 Mixed Mode" and confuse devices in pairing mode and therefore they stop to communicate. This is pure logical issue.

My setting is WPA/WPA2. I need to use something since I can not let my WiFi be unprotected. I have tried all suggested things but none worked. I have tried different router supporting WiFi5 ZTE 4G Wirless Router  model: MF286R and it worked fine.

I have a router log of all these events and have sent it to tech support team. Not much of the debigging enabled in order to trouble shot it. They wanted to have a meeting, but suddenly stopped replaying.

I have not seen anybody getting this resolved sofar. All people went back to old routers. This is not ok. I have my own company and ALL TP-Link products are my prefered supply portfolio. Yourstuff is great...but this needs to fixed and SW rolled out for update to all users. Maybe you have WPA3 implemented only in WiFi6 devices.

Please let me know any outcome.

Br Dean
