Troubleshooting Abnormal Heating: What To Do If Kasa KE100 Overheats or Not Heating Up?
This Article Applies to
Kasa KE100
Phenomenon Description
-
Overheating
1. Continuous heating with the temperature significantly exceeding the set value
2. Persistent fluctuation beyond the preset temperature
-
Not reaching the set temperature
-
No heating at all, temperature remains unchanged

*If you observe slight temperature fluctuations around the target temperature, it is a normal behavior. This occurs because the KE100 regulates temperature by modulating the valve opening, which inherently involves a thermal response delay. For instance, even after reducing the valve opening ratio or closing it completely, residual hot water in the system may continue to release heat, causing the temperature to rise briefly before stabilizing.
Troubleshooting Suggestions
1. Keep device's firmware updated.

2. Make sure you are using the AA LR6 1.5V Alkaline batteries
Do NOT use rechargeable batteries, R6, Zn-C, or 1.2V AA batteries.
3. Compatibility
Check whether your thermostat valve is compatible with KE100. If the valve doesn't fit with KE100's connector or the included adapters, you may purchase a suitable adapter yourself.

Note
1. KE100's connector needs to be tightened securely.
2. Double-check whether the adapter is installed correctly. Do not forget the pushrod if you use the RAV/GIA/M28 adapters
5. Follow the steps below to verify whether the KE100's motor is working properly.
a. Set the temperature to 30°C (86°F) manually—either in the Kasa app or by rotating KE100. Monitor whether the LED on the KE100 flashes and listen for any motor sounds.
b. Then turn off KE100 in the Kasa app. Again, watch for the LED to flash and listen for motor sound.
If you observe no LED activity and hear no motor noise during both steps, this indicates a motor issue. In this case, a replacement is required. To proceed warranty, please contact the retailer or local TP-Link support.
6. Reinstall & Recalibrate
a. Before reinstallation, go to App ->Device Settings ->Enable Sleep Mode -> Select "Fully Open"
b. Disassemble the KE100 and reinstall it. How to Install Kasa Smart Thermostatic Radiator Valve
c. Reset KE100. < Press and hold the Sync/Reset button for 5 seconds.>
d. Add/Setup device back to Kasa/Tapo App.
e. Once installed, recalibrate KE100. (App -> Device Settings -> Calibration)
