Hello everyone,

I have been having some trouble setting up my home network just the way I like it and I feel I'm on the last step but unfortunately I'm blocked by a weird issue with connection drops. They happen all the time and I'm running out of ideas what the issue could be.

My topology is the following:

- ISP-provided router with Wi-Fi disabled

- 2 Archer AX53 routers connected to it running in AP mode with DHCP disabled and static IPs.

ISP router details:

LAN IP: 192.168.1.1

Netmask: 255.255.255.0

DHCP Pool: 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.250

Primary DNS: 212.39.90.52

Secondary DNS: 212.39.90.53

On this router I've also set 192.168.1.254 and 192.168.1.253 to be statically assigned to both Archer routers by MAC address.

Archer AX34 configuration (for both):

LAN IPs: 192.168.1.254 and 192.168.1.253 (these are outside the DHCP pool of the ISP router)

Netmask: 255.255.255.0

Primary DNS: 212.39.90.52

Secondary DNS: 212.39.90.53

Both Archer routers drop connection every couple of minutes where the WAN LED goes orange and then goes back to green. This is the system log of one of them but the other one has virtually the same messages. This log has been captured after a factory reset and reconfiguration as an AP:

Edit: Swapped the cables coming from the ISP router from the WAN ports to one of the LAN ports and it seems that this issue was fixed, will monitor the behavior and logs in the coming days.

Normally WAN port should be okay in AP mode, here is the configuration guide: How to configure the TP-Link wireless router as Access Point

Since it works better now with LAN port, you could monitor for longer time.

I followed the guide exactly with the added steps that I disabled DHCP and set a static IP. There are some service start/stop logs from this night but not as frequent as before.

  @Sunshine

Here's an update on the situation. I bought another Archer AX53 to serve as my main router. I configured it and then connected the AP router via its WAN port. In the main router's DHCP settings I set the AP router to always claim the same IP address (192.168.0.254) leading to a permanent lease on it. When the AP router has a dynamic IP it claims 192.168.0.254 but it constantly pings the DHCP server for a lease renew. If I set it's IP to be static it produces the same logs as posted in the original message. The IP assigned to the AP router is outside the DHCP pool range but it had the same problem when it was within the range.

EDIT: Heres the configuration of the main router:

here is the DHCP config (the 2 reserved addresses are for my 2 AP routers)

And here is the AP configuration:

I'm still experiencing sporadic drops in connection due to this issue. I don't even know what to do anymore. It turns out that TPLink routers are useless when you need to pair them together to work in a single network.
