Before You Begin

1. Unplug the Light Strip: Ensure the light strip is disconnected from power before cutting to prevent accidental shock.

2. Check Power Output: The maximum length of the light strip that can be powered safely is determined by the power output of the adapter.

For instance, L920-5 and L930-5 cannot be extended by connecting another strip, as the power adapter can only support up to 5 meters.

If you are unsure of the maximum supported length for your light strip, please refer to this FAQ: How to connect more than one TP-Link Led Light Strips together

3. Cut Along the Indicator Line: Always cut the light strip precisely along the indicator line. Cutting at other points will render part of the strip unusable.

Note: Disassembly or alterations to the hardware (e.g. cutting light strip) will void the device's warranty.

Steps to Connect a Smart Light Strip Using a Connector:

The light strip is designed to be cuttable at specific cutting marks to fit your desired location. Always make sure that you only cut along these designated lines. Once cut, you can reconnect the unused segment to the light strip using a connector.

*Tapo/Kasa does not sell connectors directly; you will need to purchase a compatible connector from a third-party supplier.

1. Choose the Correct Connector

  • For light strips without glue (e.g., KL400/Tapo L900): Use a 4-pin, 10mm wide connector for non-waterproof 5050 LED RGB strip lights.
  • For light strips with glue (e.g., KL420/430, Tapo L920/L930): Use a 4-pin, 10mm wide connector for waterproof 5050 LED RGB strip lights.
  • Alternatively, you can choose a connector compatible with both waterproof and non-waterproof light strips.

2. Prepare the Strip and Connector

  • Cut the strip precisely along the indicator line based on your needs.

  • Have your connector ready and opened for inserting the strip (this step may vary depending on the connector type).

3. Insert the Strip into the Connector

  • Slide the strip into the connector, ensuring the contacts align properly. Make sure the "+" marks on both sides align.

  • Ensure the copper contacts of the connector correspond to the four contacts on the light strip.

4. Secure the Connection. Depending on the connector type, you may need to fasten the connector clip or secure it in another way to ensure a proper electrical connection.
