Hello,

I've recently bought the AX72 Pro router from TP-Link.

It's working nicely, although I've found a limitation while setting up the Client VPN feature.

My ISP network connection is 1Gbps

After connecting to WiFi is 700Mbps

After connecting to VPN via Software in my Windows machine it is ~300Mbps

The problem is that if I connect to the VPN through TP-Link's VPN client feature, the connection slows down 90%, and it provides 50Mbps download speed.

Protocol: WireGuard

Using protocol OpenVPN it's merely 15Mbps.

I would expect it to be much faster and powerful.

This is nonsense. Do you know of anything that may be causing this? How may I solve it?

Thanks,

Jesús

Hi,

The encryption used by these VPNs requires a lot of processing power, but the CPUs commonly found in routers are nowhere near as fast as those of a modern computer or smartphone.

The Archer AX72 Pro V1 uses a Qualcomm IPQ5018 SoC, which can also be found in a few other router models made by TP-Link. The VPN speeds you've reported are similar to what I get and also what others have reported for TP-Link routers using that IPQ5018 chip.
