The Kasa app will not scan the QR code on the box. The QR code scans with the camera without a problem but not within the Kasa App.
The QR code on the box should be the code for downloading the Kasa app. There isn't a QR code required for configuring the HS103 smart plug in the Kasa app. Refer to the guidance in the app to setup the smart plug. How to set up my TP-Link Smart Plug Switch via Kasa
