Firmware Version:

Hello.  I am planning to add an access point to a small closed in area on the far end of the house where wi-fi coverage is marginal.  I am using a third-party router with multiple networks and VLANs.  The new access point will need to support 5 VLANs with 5 SSIDs on both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands.

As I am replacing some older switches with the Omada SG2008, I am considering the EAP610 for the new access point.  However, I have several questions before I purchase the AP.  They are:

1. Can the EAP610 be configured in standalone mode?  With only a few switches and the access point, I really don't need a standalone controller.

2. Can the EAP610 radios be configured for a desired channel and for the transmit power level?  I will need to specify the channel on each band and also adjust the power level (to low).

3. Can the EAP610 be configured for the needed VLANs and SSIDs?  The AP will be connected to a trunk port on the nearby switch.

I am also open to any suggestions for a different model AP.  I do not use (or plan to use any time soon) wi-fi 7 devices.  Wi-fi 6 is sufficient.  Space is at a premium and high transfer rates aren't really necessary.  That's why I selected the EAP610.

Hi @jra11500,

The 610 would work.  These features are standard on this line of products.  The only AP with a smaller form factor would be the wall mounted types like the EAP615-Wall if that's what you mean by "space is at a premium."

Hi  @jra11500

Yes, EAP610 supports all the featuers you asked here.

Below is an emulator of the EAP's management interface,  you can have a look:

 @D-C , @Vincent-TP

Thanks for your responses.  The emulator was a great help.  The AP arrived Friday and everything is working as expected.  The only thing I don't like about the AP is that, for wall mounting, the ethernet cable and power must enter at the top of the unit if you want to keep the Tp_Link logo upright for a nice appearance.

Hi  @jra11500

We also have wall-mounting EAPs.

You can have a look on EAP615-wall. It has almost the same features as EAP610 and it's designed for wall-mounting.

  @Vincent-TP

Thank-you for the info on the EAP615-wall AP.  I will keep it in mind for any future upgrades.  This time, it was not feasible to install a junction box in the wall and the D-Line products were used to hide the surface cabling.

One note for anyone reading this...  If you don't like the upside down logo on the device when it is wall mounted with the connections on the bottom, you can remove the cover with the four underside screws and remount it with the logo upwards.  The only drawback is that the LED no longer illuminates as before and you should turn off the LED in the configuration.  Of course, this might also void the warranty.
