X50 5G Unable to Cell Lock

Model: Deco X50-5G
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.1.7

I'm trying to apply a cell lock on my X50 5G.

Below is the cell info which I wish to lock.

This cell is using the B3 band.

PCI: 472

NRARFCN: 636768

In cell lock it asks me to select the band, but B3 is not listed.

I understand N3 might mean the same as B3? (Why call it by different names??)

So I select N3.

Then it asks me to set the SCS. No idea what this is, but there is only 1 option of 15kHz, so I select  it.

Then the PCI and NRARFCN

But it tells me my NRARFCN number is invalid!

How am I meant to do this?

  @Ribcraft-Simon

Hi, thank you very much for the feedback.

It is suggested to install the 1.2.1 version here:

Deco X50-5G-1.2.1 Official Now Available for Installation!

N3 refers to the 5G NR band, and it is not the same as the B3 LTE band:

The current firmware only locks to 5G NR bands when the 5G cell lock is selected.

While your SIM ISP is using a 5G NSA Network. So, even though Deco APP shows the network type is 5G, the current network band is still Band 3.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Thank you for the clarification.

So I presently cannot lock it to any particular cell?

I understand my network (EE UK) uses older 4G cells for their 5G network, but this thing crashes on a daily basis.

It's a shame as the cell in my previous screenshot gives a strong signal and amazing speeds of 350-400Mbps, but it keeps switching to weaker cells or sometimes 4G cells.

Does the new firmware enable cell locking to 5G LTE bands?

The problem is this X50 5G is fitted this at my elderly parents house over 100 miles away. Their landline telephone uses the internet connection so they are unreachable whenever this router crashes.

Is there any way to remotely install the firmware? I see the update is not available OTA yet.

I would rather not make a 200 mile round trip this weekend just to try to get this flipping thing to work properly.

Regards.

  @Ribcraft-Simon

Hi, thanks for the update. The local update has to be installed next to the Deco X50-5G.

This version is in the release process, and you can also wait for a few weeks for the OTA push message.

The new 1.2.1 version allows locking 5G NSA bands under 5G Cell Lock.

Have you tried to manually select the network band here to see whether it helps?

  @David-TP

Thanks David

I have updated to 1.2.1 and everything seems fine at the moment.

However, i still don't see how i can lock to the 5G NSA B3 cell?  When i look under 5G Cell Lock menu, the list of bands available still only go from N3 to N78.  Should i be seeing some B bands as an option?

Thanks again

Does this cell lock feature not work after all, or am I doing something wrong??

  @Ribcraft-Simon

Hi, sorry for the delay.

I don't think you have done anything wrong.

If we select "4G"  here and select B3, after saving the settings, will the current network type change from 5G to 4G?

Wait for your reply.

Best regards.

  @David-TP

Sorry for the delay. The router is installed some distance from my home, and I cannot access the cell lock features remotely.

But I am here for this weekend.

If I turn on 4G cell lock as you suggest it asks me for a EARFCN and a PCI number. There is no option to chose any band.

I don't have an EARFCN number as it's using a 5G LTE cell which only gives me a NRARFCN number.

Confused!

On another note. This router has been perfect since the latest software update.

No freezing or dropouts.

I wanted to cell lock to the strongest transmitter, but the router now seems to be doing the job perfectly itself. So cell locking is not so important.
