Model: Tapo S110E
Hardware Version: V1
Firmware Version: 1.0.8 Build 250902 Rel. 112631

I have my Tapo S110E set in dry contact mode with Trigger Mode set to impulse. No cable switch connected - it's "disabled" under "switch type". The S110E is controlling an electric strike lock that is powered through 12V DC. When S110E is closing a circuit, the ground wire loop is closed and the lock opens. I'm not using wet contact, since S110E is rated from 24V DC and my end devices do not support this voltage, so I had to use dry contact.

I normally control the switch through button S200B and smart action - button pressed, the lock opens.

Problem: I get random trigger failures in the app at very random times. I double checked wiring, even bought second S110E unit, but the problem is the same. I placed an additional AP to bring WiFi signal strength up (now at -47 RSSI). Sometimes it shows single failure on one button press, sometimes multiple (see screenshots).

What could be the reason of these random failures? This does not make sense to me. It seems to be either problem on the TP-Link server side or some electric problem. Mind that this S110E just replaced my old Sonoff and never had a single issue with Sonoff. The main reason for switch was to have everything in one app since I use Tapo a lot.

Attaching screenshots for more info.

Do you have other Tapo devices? Try to use the same button to control other smart devices, observe whether the same thing still occurs. Create a new automation rule, or add the action in the existing rule with the S110E.

Yes, I do. As mentioned, I tried the same rule with another s110e, with the same, random result. I have s112, which I can try to set up with S200B in a few days.

"Create a new automation rule, or add the action in the existing rule with the S110E."

Could you please clarify more? I have intelligent action set with S200B as mentioned before.

I noticed that sometimes even when the smart action fails (visible through logs), a few seconds later an actual action is triggered (lock is opened) and this is not visible in the logs. It kind of looks like there was some network retransmission and eventually the open action succeeded.

Also, are you able to look at the server-side logs to try find the culprit?

Use the smart button to control other smart devices beyond the S110E—such as a plug, a light bulb, or a camera. You can either create a new automation rule or add an action to an existing one. For example: “When the S200B is single-tapped, then 1. toggle the S110E, and 2. turn on Plug A.”

Additionally, please confirm the signal strength of the switch. Delay or even malfunction might occur if device's signal is too weak. How to check and improve the network connection stability of Tapo&Kasa smart devices
